In 1941, during World War II, the USAAF decided to produce the British de Havilland Mosquito plane through Beech Aircraft Corporation. Pilot Elliott Eisler tested the aircraft at Iowa City Army Airbase. The Mosquito's speed and firepower impressed him greatly.
