A mafia boss man falls in love with a mafia boss woman
Chapter 1
I’m in love with a woman I can’t have, and there’s absolutely nothing I can do to change that.
She’s my enemy, my adversary, the one person who could bring me down if she wanted to.
And yet, here I am, completely and utterly obsessed with her.
It’s been this way since the moment I first laid eyes on her, and it’s only gotten worse as time has gone on.
I’ve tried to fight it, but it’s no use.
She’s already won, and she doesn’t even know it.
The worst part?
I think she might feel the same way about me.
Because her name is Isabella Romano, and I am Vincent Moretti.
Two of the most powerful crime families in New York have been at war for as long as anyone can remember: my family, the Morettis, against hers, the Romanos.
For years we fought each other tooth and nail for control over this city.
There were times when it seemed like our blood feud would never end, but eventually things finally began to settle down between us.
I’ve been called many things over the years: a cold-hearted bastard, a ruthless killer, a cunning son of a bitch.
I’m feared and respected by everyone who knows me; my name alone is enough to silence any room full of people.
I’m not used to someone like Isabella having this effect on me—most women would be falling at my feet by now—but she’s nothing like anyone I’ve ever met before.
She’s strong and confident, with a sharp mind and even sharper tongue.
She isn’t afraid of me or anyone else for that matter.
And that makes her all the more dangerous.
If I’m being completely honest with myself, I have to admit that part of what draws me to her is how fearless she is.
I’m not sure what it was about her that caught my eye in the first place; maybe it was her piercing eyes or her shapely figure, or maybe it was something else entirely.
All I know is that from the moment I laid eyes on her, I was completely captivated by her.
And now here we are, playing a dangerous game of cat and mouse with each other's hearts at stake.
I had never intended for Isabella to be anything other than a pawn in my game—a way to get to her father, Silvio Romano, and take his place as the most powerful man in New York City.
During that fateful hand of poker she showed me just how dangerous she could really be, easily outsmarting me at my own game.
I underestimated her brilliance and cunning more than once during our meeting, blinded by lustful thoughts of all the ways I could use her against her father… until she turned the tables on me.
In one bold move Isabella declared war on my family—though neither of us knew it at the time—and won that round.
I should have been furious about losing, and I suppose in some ways I was; but at the same time, I couldn’t help but be impressed by her intelligence and beauty.
Isabella was unlike any woman I had ever met before—smart, sexy, and completely fearless.
Meeting her had lit a fire inside me that I hadn't known existed, leaving me hungry for more.
Every encounter between us since then had been charged with tension and unspoken desire, each of us vying for control over the other like two predators circling their prey.
It was exhilarating and dangerous all at once, like stepping onto a battlefield where neither side wanted to admit defeat.
I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy our little game; there were times when all I could think about was how badly I wanted to have her in my arms, to feel her soft skin against mine and taste the sweetness of her lips.
But as much as I craved Isabella’s company, we both knew better than to act on our desires.
She was my enemy just as much as I was hers, and any kind of relationship between us would be disastrous for both sides.
Our families’ feud went back decades, filled with betrayal and bloodshed at every turn.
In the Mafia world, power was everything and sentiment was considered a weakness.
My father taught me that at a young age and he didn’t need to say it twice for me to understand what he meant.
Emotion made you vulnerable, something that could be used against you by your enemies when the time came.
And when you were born into a family like mine, there were always going to be enemies lurking in the shadows, waiting for an opportunity to strike.
I had seen firsthand what happened to those who allowed their emotions to cloud their judgment; they ended up dead or worse—in prison for the rest of their lives.
I was no stranger to the violence and bloodshed that plagued my world; I had seen things that would make most people sick to their stomachs, things that could haunt a person for the rest of their days.
But despite all that I had witnessed and done in the name of power and loyalty, there was one thing I still couldn’t explain—my feelings for Isabella Romano.
Her long black hair and piercing green eyes were enough to drive any man crazy with desire, but it was her fierce intelligence and strength that made me fall hopelessly in love with her.
She was everything I should have hated, and yet every time I looked at her, all I could think about was how badly I wanted her in my arms.
Our families had been at war for as long as I could remember, each side determined to destroy the other no matter what the cost.
I had lost count of how many people I had killed over the years, and yet despite everything, I couldn’t bring myself to hate Isabella or wish her any harm.
