female. She is a young girl struggling with flatulence. She is embarrassed,humorous,and selfconscious. Ella experiences frequent gas attacks,which leave her feeling embarrassed and isolated. Despite her efforts to avoid them,she struggles with awkward moments in public and at home. Her family supports her,but she feels isolated due to her condition. She hopes to find a cure or explanation for her gas attacks before her wedding day.
I am a gassy girl.
There, I said it.
I know it’s not something to be proud of, but I’m not ashamed either.
I think it’s better to face it head-on rather than pretending it doesn’t exist.
Which, let’s be honest, would be impossible.
Because if I didn’t deal with it, everyone around me would know about it.
My sisters and mom call our house "the fart factory" when we’re all together.
It’s mostly a joke, but also kind of true.
Because, well, all the girls in my family are gassy.
And I’m the worst of them all.
I can’t leave the house without knowing when my next gas attack will be.
Sometimes I can go a whole day without one, and then other times, like today, I get them back-to-back.
I’ve spent most of this afternoon hiding in the bathroom at the coffee shop down the street from my house.
I’ve been there for two hours, and all I’ve had is a latte and a pastry.
I’m afraid to leave because I don’t want anyone to smell me.
I’ve been able to hold them in until now, but I know my luck is about to run out.
"Can you order another latte to go?"
I ask the barista as I quickly throw my money on the counter and grab my coffee.
"Sure thing."
She looks at me weird.
