The Last Library
I sat in the dimly lit library, surrounded by the comforting smell of old books. The air was thick with the weight of knowledge, and the flickering fluorescent lights cast an eerie glow over the rows of shelves. Marcus sat across from me, his eyes scanning the pages of a dusty tome.
The silence was broken only by the occasional rustle of paper as we turned the pages of our respective books.
I watched him closely, trying to decipher his intentions. He seemed absorbed in his reading, but I could sense a certain alertness about him, as if he were waiting for something or someone.
I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease as I sat there, my eyes darting back and forth between Marcus and the door.
Suddenly, he looked up and met my gaze.
"We need to talk," he said, his voice low and steady.
I nodded, feeling a mix of curiosity and caution.
As he leaned forward, a faded photograph slipped from the pages of his book and fell to the floor.
Marcus picked up the photograph, his eyes lingering on it before handing it to me.
"That's my father," he said quietly, "and the man next to him is the reason we're both here."
I studied the image, recognizing the second face instantly.
