Chapter 1
I sat in my tent, the only light coming from a single lantern on the table.
The map was spread out before me, and I studied it with a frown.
The war wasn’t going well for us, and we were losing ground every day.
I had been given orders to secure a vital supply route deep into enemy territory, and I knew that if we didn’t succeed, we would lose the war.
I heard footsteps outside my tent and looked up as Sarah came in.
She closed the flap behind her and walked over to the table.
"General," she said with a nod.
"Sarah," I replied.
"What do you have for me?"
She reached into her pocket and pulled out a piece of paper.
"It’s signed by one of our informants."
I took the paper and looked at it before looking up at her.
"Are you sure?"
She nodded, her eyes serious.
I frowned as I considered this news.
If we had a spy, it would mean that someone was working for the other side.
There were only a few people who knew about this mission, but if the enemy knew where we were headed, they could plan an ambush that would wipe out our entire force.
We were already fighting an uphill battle, and if we wanted to win, we needed this supply route open.
I looked at Sarah again and saw the concern in her eyes.
"Do you know who it is?" "Not yet," she said with a shake of her head.
"But I’ll find out."
If we had a traitor among us, he needed to be found immediately before he could do any more damage.
