I walked down the hall to my last class of the day, English.
The only thing that made this class bearable was the fact that Sarah was in it with me.
I walked in and saw her sitting at our usual table, so I went and sat down next to her.
"Hey girl, how was your day?" she asked.
"It was okay, I guess. Just ready for it to be over."
I told her as I slumped down in my chair.
I looked up when I heard the door open and saw that we had a new student.
He was tall with dark hair and piercing blue eyes.
He looked like he could be a model or something.
He walked over to the teacher and handed her his schedule.
Guardian Angel's Unexpected Love
The teacher glanced at the schedule and then looked up at the class.
"Class, we have a new student joining us today. This is Jacob."
Jacob nodded slightly, his eyes scanning the room before landing on me.
I felt a strange pull, like an invisible thread connecting us, but I quickly dismissed it.
"Nice to meet you, Jacob," the teacher continued. "You can take a seat next to MiKayla."
My heart skipped a beat as he walked over and sat down beside me.
Sarah shot me a curious look, but I just shrugged.
Throughout the lesson, I couldn't shake the feeling of being watched.
Every time I glanced sideways, Jacob's eyes were on me, intense and unwavering.
It was both unsettling and intriguing.
When the bell finally rang, I gathered my things quickly, eager to escape the strange tension.
But as I stood up, Jacob blocked my path.
"MiKayla," he said softly, his voice smooth yet commanding.
Guardian Angel's Unexpected Love
I froze, my pulse quickening. "Yes?"
"You don't remember me, do you?" His eyes bore into mine, searching for something.
I frowned. "Should I?"
He smiled faintly, a hint of sadness in his expression. "We knew each other once. A long time ago."
My mind raced, trying to place him, but nothing came to mind. "I'm sorry, I don't remember."
"You will," he said cryptically before turning and walking away.
I stood there, stunned and confused.
Sarah came up beside me, her brow furrowed with concern. "What was that about?"
"I have no idea," I admitted. "He said we knew each other from before."
Sarah's eyes widened. "That's weird. You should be careful around him."
"Why?" I asked, still watching Jacob as he disappeared down the hall.
"Because there's something off about him," she said firmly. "I can feel it."
I nodded slowly, but my curiosity was piqued.
Who was Jacob really?
And why did he seem so familiar?
Guardian Angel's Unexpected Love
As Sarah and I walked out of the classroom together, my mind was buzzing with questions.
The rest of the day passed in a blur.
I couldn't stop thinking about Jacob and his mysterious words.
By the time school ended, I was determined to find out more about him.
As I stepped outside into the cool afternoon air, I spotted Jacob leaning against a tree near the parking lot.
He looked up as if sensing my presence and smiled knowingly.
Taking a deep breath, I walked over to him.
"Jacob," I called out hesitantly.
He straightened up and faced me. "MiKayla."
"I need answers," I said bluntly. "Who are you really?"
His smile widened slightly. "All in good time."
Frustration bubbled up inside me. "No, now. Why do you say we knew each other?"
He took a step closer, his gaze never leaving mine. "Because we did."
Before I could respond, a loud crash echoed from behind us.
Guardian Angel's Unexpected Love
A figure in a dark cloak emerged from the shadows, moving swiftly toward us.
Jacob immediately stepped in front of me, his eyes narrowing with determination.
"Stay behind me," he ordered.
I could feel the tension radiating from him.
The cloaked figure stopped a few feet away, revealing a sinister grin.
"So, this is the girl you're protecting?" he sneered.
Jacob's fists clenched. "Leave her out of this," he growled.
The figure laughed, a chilling sound that sent shivers down my spine.
Suddenly, Jacob lunged forward, engaging the figure in a fierce struggle.
I watched, heart pounding, unsure of what to do.
Their movements were swift and precise, almost like a deadly dance.
Jacob threw a punch that connected with the figure's jaw, but the cloaked man barely flinched.
"MiKayla, run!" Jacob shouted between blows.
I hesitated, my feet rooted to the spot as I watched them fight.
The cloaked figure managed to land a hit on Jacob's side, causing him to stagger back.
"You're not going anywhere," the figure hissed at me before turning his attention back to Jacob.
Guardian Angel's Unexpected Love
I took a step back, my mind racing with fear and confusion.
Why was this happening? Who was this man?
Jacob regained his footing and launched himself at the figure again, tackling him to the ground.
They rolled across the pavement, grappling for control.
I glanced around frantically for something—anything—that could help.
My eyes landed on a large branch lying nearby.
Without thinking, I ran over and picked it up.
"Jacob!" I yelled, trying to get his attention.
He glanced over at me just as the cloaked figure managed to throw him off.
I swung the branch with all my might, aiming for the figure's head.
It connected with a sickening thud, and the man stumbled back, dazed.
Jacob seized the opportunity and delivered a powerful kick to the man's chest, sending him sprawling onto the ground.
"Let's go!" Jacob shouted, grabbing my hand and pulling me away from the scene.
We ran through the parking lot and into the nearby woods, our breaths coming in ragged gasps.
Branches scratched at my face and arms as we pushed through the underbrush.
Finally, we stopped in a small clearing, both of us panting heavily.
Guardian Angel's Unexpected Love
"What...what was that?" I managed to ask between breaths.
Jacob looked around cautiously before answering. "He's one of them."
"One of who?" I demanded. "What's going on?"
Jacob sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "There's so much you don't know yet. But I promise I'll explain everything."
I stared at him, frustration and fear bubbling up inside me. "You better start now."
He nodded. "Alright. But we need to keep moving. It's not safe here."
We continued deeper into the woods as Jacob began to explain.
"There are people—dangerous people—who have been searching for you for a long time," he said quietly. "They believe you have something they need."
"Me? Why?" I asked incredulously.
"It's complicated," he replied. "But it has to do with your past—our past."
I frowned. "What do you mean?"
"We were friends once," Jacob said softly. "A long time ago. But something happened that changed everything."
"What happened?" I pressed.
Before he could answer, another rustling sound came from behind us.
We both turned to see more figures emerging from the trees, their eyes glowing eerily in the dim light.
Guardian Angel's Unexpected Love
The figures snarled and pounded against the barrier, but it held firm.
My heart raced as I clung to Jacob, my breath coming in short, panicked gasps.
He turned to me, his voice urgent, "We need to find a safe place."
I nodded, my fear mingling with determination.
We sprinted deeper into the woods, dodging branches and leaping over roots.
The barrier flickered but stayed intact, casting a faint glow around us.
The forest was dense, shadows stretching long and ominous in the fading light.
Leaves crunched under our feet as we ran, the sound echoing in the otherwise silent woods.
I could hear the figures behind us, their growls growing fainter but still present.
"Keep moving!" Jacob urged, glancing back to ensure the barrier was holding.
Finally, we reached an old abandoned cabin nestled among the trees.
Its wooden walls were weathered and covered in moss, windows broken and door hanging ajar.
Jacob pushed open the door with a creak and ushered me inside.
"This will buy us some time," he said, locking the door behind us.
The interior of the cabin was dark and musty, cobwebs hanging from the ceiling beams.
An old fireplace stood against one wall, filled with ashes and charred wood.
A rickety table and two chairs occupied the center of the room.
Jacob quickly moved to one of the windows, peering out cautiously.
Guardian Angel's Unexpected Love
I leaned against the wall, trying to catch my breath. "What now?" I asked, my voice trembling.
"We need to reinforce the barrier," Jacob replied. "It won't hold forever."
He began searching through his pockets, pulling out small vials and herbs.
I watched him work, my mind racing with questions. "Jacob...what are those things? Why are they after me?"
He glanced up briefly. "They're called Shadows. They're drawn to powerful energy sources."
"And you think I'm one of those sources?" I asked incredulously.
Jacob nodded. "Yes. And so am I. That's why they attacked us."
He poured some of the contents from a vial into his hand and began chanting softly.
A faint blue light emanated from his palm as he traced symbols on the walls.
I took a deep breath, trying to steady myself. "So what do we do now?"
"We wait," Jacob said simply. "And hope this holds until morning."
He finished his incantation and turned to face me. "Are you okay?"
I nodded slowly. "Just...a lot to take in."
"I know," he said gently. "But we'll get through this together."
He walked over to me and placed a reassuring hand on my shoulder.
Suddenly, a loud crash echoed from outside.
We both froze, eyes wide with alarm.
"They're here," Jacob whispered.
The door shook violently as something pounded against it from the other side.
"Get back!" Jacob ordered, positioning himself between me and the door.
The pounding grew louder, more insistent.
"Is there another way out?" I asked frantically.
Guardian Angel's Unexpected Love
Jacob shook his head. "No. This is our only chance."
He raised his hands again, preparing another spell.
The door splintered under the force of the blows, wood cracking and giving way.
A dark figure loomed in the doorway, its eyes glowing with malevolent intent.
Jacob stepped forward, chanting rapidly as he summoned another barrier.
"Stay behind me!" he shouted over his shoulder.
I pressed myself against the wall, heart hammering in my chest.
The figure lunged at Jacob, but was repelled by the barrier with a hiss of frustration.
Jacob's face was set in grim determination as he held his ground.
"We can't keep this up forever," he muttered through gritted teeth.
"Then what do we do?" I cried out desperately.
Before he could answer, another figure appeared beside the first one.
They both snarled and began attacking the barrier together, their combined strength causing it to flicker dangerously.
"MiKayla," Jacob said urgently. "There's something you need to know."
"What?" I asked breathlessly.
"You have power too," he said. "You can help me strengthen this barrier."
"But how?" I asked in confusion.
"Focus on your energy," Jacob instructed. "Feel it inside you. Then channel it into the barrier."
I closed my eyes tightly, trying to concentrate amidst the chaos surrounding us.
I felt a strange warmth building within me, growing stronger with each passing second.
"Now!" Jacob shouted.
Guardian Angel's Unexpected Love
Jacob's barrier shimmered, holding them at bay.
My hands trembled as I channeled my energy into the barrier.
Sweat dripped down Jacob's face as he fought to maintain it.
One figure broke through, lunging at me.
Jacob intercepted, slamming the intruder against the wall.
I screamed, my energy surging uncontrollably.
The barrier expanded, pushing the shadows back.
Exhausted, Jacob collapsed to his knees.
I rushed to his side, tears streaming down my face. "We need to leave," Jacob gasped.
We stumbled out of the cabin, the shadows regrouping behind us.
The forest was dark and foreboding, every rustle and snap of a twig sending chills down my spine.
Jacob leaned heavily on me as we moved, his breaths ragged and shallow.
"We have to keep going," he urged weakly.
I nodded, determination fueling my steps despite the fear gnawing at me.
We navigated through the dense underbrush, branches clawing at our clothes and skin.
The moonlight barely pierced through the canopy above, casting eerie shadows all around us.
"Where are we going?" I asked, my voice trembling with exhaustion and fear.
"There's a safe house... not far from here," Jacob replied between labored breaths.
Suddenly, a low growl echoed from behind us.
Guardian Angel's Unexpected Love
I glanced back and saw the shadowy figures closing in fast. "They're catching up!" I cried out.
Jacob's grip on my arm tightened. "Just a little further," he urged.
We burst into another clearing, this one larger than the last.
In the center stood an old stone structure, half-hidden by overgrown vines and moss.
"This way!" Jacob directed, pulling me toward it.
We reached the entrance just as the shadows emerged from the trees.
Jacob raised his hand, summoning another barrier to block their path.
"Inside!" he commanded.
I pushed open the heavy wooden door and helped Jacob inside before slamming it shut behind us.
The interior was dimly lit by flickering candles scattered around the room.
Old bookshelves lined the walls, filled with ancient tomes and scrolls.
Jacob collapsed onto a nearby chair, his face pale and drawn.
"We should be safe here for now," he said weakly.
I knelt beside him, worry etched across my face. "Are you okay?"
He nodded slightly. "Just... need to rest for a moment."
As Jacob closed his eyes and tried to regain his strength, I took in our surroundings more carefully.
The room had an air of mystery about it—like it held secrets long forgotten by time.
A large wooden table occupied the center of the room, covered in maps and strange artifacts.
One map caught my eye—it seemed to depict our current location and surrounding areas.
Guardian Angel's Unexpected Love
Curiosity piqued, I studied it closely. "Jacob," I called softly. "What is this place?"
He opened his eyes slowly and glanced at the map I was pointing to. "It's an old sanctuary," he explained. "Used by those who fought against the Shadows long ago."
I traced my finger along one of the marked paths on the map. "And this? Where does it lead?"
"To another safe house," Jacob replied. "But it's much further away."
A loud thud against the door jolted us both back to reality. The Shadows were relentless—they wouldn't give up easily.
"We can't stay here forever," I said urgently.
Jacob struggled to stand but managed to steady himself with my help. "You're right," he agreed. "We need to keep moving."
With renewed determination, we gathered what supplies we could find—a few vials of herbs and potions that Jacob assured me would help us along our journey.
As we prepared to leave, Jacob turned to me with a serious expression. "MiKayla," he began hesitantly. "There's something else you need to know."
"What is it?" I asked anxiously.
He took a deep breath before continuing. "Your power... it's stronger than you realize. And it's connected to something much bigger than just us."
Before I could ask him to elaborate further, another crash echoed through the room—the Shadows were breaking through again.
"Let's go!" Jacob urged urgently.
