The marble countertop was covered with maps.
Not the kind of maps that showed the location of an opposing wrestler's weakness.
Not the type that showed the route to a particular arena.
No, these were the type of maps that showed where the next phase of my life would take place.
I stared at them and wondered where I would be calling home for the next few years.
I looked up to see my wife coming out of our bedroom.
She was still dressed in her business suit, her hair pulled back and her glasses on.
Even after all these years, she looked more beautiful every time I saw her.
"Hey, Sargent," she said, as she walked over to me.
"Hey, Jenny."
I stood and kissed her, then held her hand and looked at the maps on the counter.
"I take it you're looking at these?"
She sighed and pulled her hand from mine, then began to take off her jacket.
"I guess so."

I watched as Jenny draped her jacket over the back of a chair.
She ran a hand through her hair, loosening it from the tight bun she always wore for work.
"Any ideas yet?" she asked, nodding towards the maps.
"Not really," I admitted.
"There's just so many options. I don't even know where to start."
Jenny leaned over the counter, scanning the maps with a furrowed brow.
"Well, we should probably narrow it down. What are we looking for? Warm weather? Good schools?"
I chuckled. "We don't have kids, Jenny."
She smiled softly. "No, but we might someday. It's something to consider."

I nodded, feeling a pang of uncertainty.
Retirement was supposed to be relaxing, but this felt like one of the toughest decisions I'd ever made.
"I just want somewhere peaceful," I said finally.
"Somewhere we can both be happy."
Jenny's eyes softened as she looked at me.
"We'll find it, Sarge. Together."
I wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her close.
Her warmth was comforting, grounding me in the moment.
"How was work?" I asked, trying to shift the conversation.
She sighed again, leaning into me. "Exhausting. But it's good to be home."

We stood there for a moment, just holding each other.
The maps lay forgotten on the counter as we took solace in our shared presence.
Finally, Jenny pulled away and picked up one of the maps.
"What about this place?" she asked, pointing to a small town near the coast.
I glanced at it. "Seaside? Looks nice enough."
"It has a good community feel," she said. "And it's not too far from the city if we need anything."
I could see the appeal. A quiet life by the ocean sounded perfect after years of grueling matches and constant travel.
"Let's put it on the maybe list," I said.
Jenny nodded and set the map aside. "Okay. What else?"
Before I could answer, my phone buzzed on the counter.
I picked it up and saw a message from my old wrestling manager, Tony.
"What's up?" Jenny asked, noticing my expression.
"It's Tony," I said. "He wants to meet up tomorrow."
Jenny frowned. "What for? You're retired now."
"I don't know," I replied, feeling a knot form in my stomach.
"But I guess I'll find out."
She squeezed my hand reassuringly. "Whatever it is, we'll handle it together."
I smiled at her strength and determination.
"Yeah," I said. "Together."

The next day came quickly.
I found myself standing outside Tony's office, feeling a mix of curiosity and dread.
Jenny had insisted on coming with me, but I told her I'd handle it alone.
I knocked on the door and heard Tony's gruff voice call out, "Come in!"
Pushing open the door, I stepped inside to see Tony sitting behind his cluttered desk.
"Sarge!" he exclaimed, standing up to greet me.
"Tony," I said with a nod.
He motioned for me to sit down. "Thanks for coming on such short notice."
"No problem," I replied, taking a seat.
Tony sat back down and folded his hands on the desk.
"I'll get straight to the point," he said. "There's been some trouble."
My heart rate quickened. "What kind of trouble?"
Tony sighed heavily. "It's about your last match... there's been some allegations."
My mind raced as I tried to process his words.
"What kind of allegations?"
He looked me straight in the eye. "They're saying you threw the match on purpose."
The room seemed to spin around me as his words sank in.
Thrown match?
Allegations?
This couldn't be happening.
Before I could respond, Tony continued,
