I was having a midlife crisis.
At least, I thought I was.
I’d been feeling this way for a while now, but it had come to a head tonight.
I was standing outside the window of the gym where my best friend’s little sister worked.
I’d been doing a lot of thinking lately, and I’d come to the realization that I wasn’t getting any younger.
I was thirty-six years old and felt like I’d accomplished everything I wanted to in my life.
Most men would be happy with that, but not me.
I was feeling restless, like there was something missing.
As I peered through the window, I watched her.
She was beautiful.
Her long black hair was pulled back into a ponytail and her green eyes were focused on her client as he lifted an impressive amount of weight above his head.
Emily Carter was a force of nature.
She moved with a grace and determination that I found mesmerizing.
Her voice, though muffled through the glass, carried a tone of encouragement and authority.
I could see the sweat glistening on her brow, a testament to her dedication.
My heart pounded in my chest as I watched her.
I knew I had feelings for her, feelings I shouldn’t have.
She was my best friend’s sister, after all.
But there was something about her that drew me in, something I couldn’t ignore.
Suddenly, a shadow moved across the window.
I turned my head and saw Victoria Hayes standing there.
Victoria was Emily’s rival and a well-known fitness model.
She was tall, blonde, and had a body that looked like it was sculpted from marble.
She was everything Emily wasn’t – flashy, arrogant, and always looking for attention.
Victoria caught my eye and smirked.
She knew exactly what she was doing.
I felt a surge of anger rise within me.
Victoria had always been a thorn in Emily’s side, constantly trying to one-up her and steal her clients.
I clenched my fists, feeling the familiar tension in my muscles.
I wanted to march in there and give Victoria a piece of my mind, but I knew that wouldn’t solve anything.
Instead, I took a deep breath and tried to calm myself down.
I couldn’t let Victoria get under my skin.
Not tonight.
As I stood there, watching the two women through the window, I couldn’t help but think about my own life.
I’d spent years in the wrestling ring, fighting for glory and fame.
But now that it was all over, I felt empty inside.
What was I supposed to do now?
Was this all there was to life?
I shook my head, trying to clear my thoughts.
This wasn’t the time for self-pity.
I needed to focus on what mattered – Emily.
She deserved better than to be overshadowed by someone like Victoria.
I made up my mind then and there that I would do whatever it took to help her succeed.
