Chapter 1
I woke up in the hospital, and I didn't know what was going on.
There were dead people walking around.
I was looking for my wife and my son.
I'm a cop.
This is my house.
I had a wound, so I went to the hospital to get patched up, and I fell into a coma.
When I came out of it, that's when I found out that the world was over.
The dead took over the Earth.
I haven't seen my family since I was shot in the line of duty and fell into a coma.
When I woke up, the only thing I could hear were monitors beeping in the background.
The hospital was quiet with no sound of any staff or patients around.
"Hello?"
I called out but got no answer.
"Is anyone here? Can you help me?"
Something wasn't right, so I decided to get up and check out what was going on.
That's when I found them: piles of mutilated bodies laid out in a cafeteria area as if they were feasted upon by something.
Blood spattered all over me, and it made me sick to my stomach.
I couldn't believe what I was seeing, but it looked like these people were mauled to death by something.
A lot of questions flowed through my head as I tried to make sense of the situation.
What the hell is this?
Is this some kind of sick joke?
It wasn't until one of them started moving that I realized that I had to get out.
The situation turned from bad to worse as these things started coming after me looking for their next meal.
They moved slowly, but there were so many of them; I didn't think that they would be able to catch up to me.
As soon as I got out of the hospital, it was like walking straight into hell.
There were more dead people wandering around and feasting on the flesh of others; it didn't make any sense.
At that point, I knew that this wasn't some kind of bad dream, and this was really happening all over the world.
I needed to find my wife Lori and my son Carl; maybe they were still okay somewhere in all this madness.
