Perdita Vladek
She is the Queen of Vlatava. She is resilient, determined, and compassionate. Perdita led her people against the invasion of Markovia, fighting alongside her friends and allies. Despite the war's devastating effects, she remains hopeful for her nation's future. Perdita's love for her people and her kingdom drives her resolve. She mourns the losses but celebrates victories, expressing gratitude to allies like the United States and NATO. Perdita's courage and leadership are pivotal in rallying her nation against oppression.
Garfield "Beast Boy" Logan
He is a chimpanzee with superhuman strength and agility. He is loyal, protective, and gentle. Beast Boy fights alongside Perdita and supports her throughout the war. He shares a deep friendship with Terra Markov and Violet Harper. Despite the harshness of war, he remains a source of comfort for Terra. Beast Boy helps Terra navigate her grief after disowning Brion. He remains steadfast, providing emotional support and physical protection to those he cares about, especially Perdita and Terra.
Tara "Terra" Markov
She is a former princess of Markovia turned ally of Vlatava. She is conflicted, emotional, and impulsive. Terra grapples with her complicated past and loyalty to her friends. Her brother Brion's atrocities during the war deeply affect her, leading to their familial bond fracturing. Terra struggles with loss and grief after seeing Brion's cold demeanor towards victims. Despite her pain, she disowns him, seeking distance and solace in her friendships with Perdita and Beast Boy.
"Friends, my friends, people of Vlatava, the war is over. After a year, eight months, and three days, we have emerged victorious. The Markovian army has been defeated and forced to retreat back to Markovia. Vlatava is free."
The crowd cheers.
I raise my hands for silence.
"We have lost so much in this war. We have lost friends, family members, comrades. We have seen destruction beyond our wildest imaginations. But we have also seen rebirth. We have seen the rise of heroes. We have seen the strength of our people, the resilience of our military, and the power of our alliances."
I look at my friends standing beside me.
"Friends who became family: Garfield Logan, Violet Harper, Tara Markov, Megan Morse, Connor Kent, Cassandra Sandsmith, Virgil Hawkins, Lia Briggs, Jaime Reyes. You came from different parts of the world to fight for us. You left your homes to fight for us. And when you could have gone back to your homes after the initial invasion, you stayed with us. You fought with us for over a year. You bled with us. You cried with us. And today, we stand together as victors."
The crowd cheers again.
I smile.
I turn to Tara, who stands rigid beside me on the platform.
Her hands are trembling slightly.
I gesture for her to come forward and speak.
The crowd falls silent, watching the former Markovian princess with a mix of curiosity and respect.
Tara hesitates, her eyes darting to Beast Boy, who gives her an encouraging nod.
She takes three slow steps forward.
Her boots echo against the wooden stage.
When she reaches the microphone, she grips its stand with both hands.
Her knuckles turn white as she stares out at the sea of faces.
"I am home."
I watch her hands tremble on the microphone stand.
She takes a deep breath and steadies herself.
"I am home," she says again, her voice barely above a whisper.
The crowd is silent, their eyes fixed on the former princess of their enemy nation.
"I remember my first days in Vlatava," she continues, her voice growing stronger with each word.
"It was years ago, long before the war. I was here as a diplomatic visitor, representing Markovia. I remember walking through your streets and seeing children playing in the parks. I remember seeing elderly couples tending to their gardens. I remember the laughter, the music, the smell of fresh bread from the bakeries."
Her voice cracks as she pauses, her eyes welling up with tears.
"And then I remember the day my brother invaded your country. I remember watching those same streets turn to rubble. I remember hearing the screams of innocent civilians. And I remember making a choice."
She takes another deep breath, her shoulders squaring as she stands taller.
"I chose to fight against my own brother. I chose to stand with you, to stand for what is right. And today, we have emerged victorious."
Tears stream down her cheeks, but she doesn’t wipe them away.
Instead, she raises her head and continues speaking.
"To the people of Vlatava, I promise you this: we will rebuild every home that was destroyed. We will restore every garden that was lost. We will bring back the laughter, the music, and the smell of fresh bread." Beast Boy steps closer to Tara, ready to support her if she needs it.
But she stands tall on her own, her voice clear and unwavering.
"We will rebuild our nation stronger than ever before," she declares.
"And we will do it together."
The crowd erupts into cheers once more.
Tara smiles through her tears as Beast Boy wraps an arm around her shoulders.
"Do you think they'll ever truly forgive me?" Tara whispers, her voice barely audible over the crowd's cheers.
Beast Boy leans in closer, his expression earnest. "They already have, Tara. You proved your loyalty with every battle you fought by their side."
Tara nods slowly, her eyes scanning the faces before her. "Then it's time I forgive myself," she says softly, determination settling in her gaze.
