The sun was slowly setting on what had been a good day.
I had just moved into my new apartment and I was excited to start this new chapter in my life.
I stood in the doorway looking out at the view.
It wasn't much, just a few buildings across the way, but I loved it.
I heard something scurrying around behind me, so I turned to go back inside.
I froze as I saw a rat making its way across my kitchen floor.
I screamed and jumped back out of the way.
It continued across the floor and under my dining table.
I stood there frozen in shock, unsure of what to do.
I heard it again, only this time it was closer to me.
I turned and ran out of the apartment, slamming the door behind me.
I ran down the stairs and out into the parking lot.
I was barefoot, but I didn't care.
I stopped once I was halfway across the lot and turned back to the building.
It was an old building and not very well kept up.
The only reason I had agreed to live here, was because of the price.
It was dirt cheap compared to all of the other apartments I had looked at.
That and it was close to work, so I didn't have to drive.
