I was born in a world with magic.
A world where you could go to a school that taught you how to use your magic, where you could buy wands and spellbooks at the local supercenter.
Witches and Warlocks were respected and admired.
I was not born with magic.
I was on the outside looking in.
I had no idea why I was not born with magic.
Nobody else in my family had this problem.
So I went to a Non-Magical school instead.
It was not as good as the other schools, but it was better than nothing.
The Non-Magical schools were not regulated by the Ministry of Magic, so anybody could open one.
The teachers did not have to have a degree or any experience teaching.
They just had to want the job.
Some were good teachers, some were not.
I crouched in the shadows, my eyes fixed on the grand gates of Shiz QCC University Academy, the renowned magic school that seemed to shimmer in the moonlight.
The sound of rustling robes and hushed conversations carried on the wind, making my heart race with excitement.
I had always been fascinated by the world of magic, even though I was born without it.
As a Non-Magical, I was relegated to attending a subpar school that lacked the structure and prestige of institutions like Shiz QCC.
But tonight, I was determined to get a glimpse of what I was missing.
I timed my move perfectly, darting through the entrance just as it began to close, and found myself in a labyrinth of corridors that hummed with the energy of magic.
The air was alive with an otherworldly buzz, like the gentle thrumming of a harp string.
I followed the sound to a classroom where a lesson was underway, my footsteps silent on the polished floor.
Peering through the window, I watched intently as students waved their wands in intricate patterns, their incantations weaving a spell of enchantment.
Professor Elwes, a tall, slender woman with silver hair and piercing green eyes, stood at the front of the room, her own wand moving with precision as she demonstrated a complex spell.
I memorized each movement, each gesture, my mind racing with the possibilities.
Suddenly, a student's wand slipped, and a burst of wild magic erupted, sending books tumbling from the shelves.
The professor's eyes snapped towards me, and for an instant, our gazes locked.
I froze, my heart pounding in my chest.
Then, with a knowing smile, she nodded ever so slightly, acknowledging my presence.
I took a deep breath, my eyes locked on Professor Elwes as I stepped forward, the wooden floor creaking beneath my feet.
The students' whispers grew louder, their curiosity palpable as they watched me approach the professor's desk.
Professor Elwes's gaze never wavered, her piercing green eyes assessing me like a specimen under a microscope.
I felt a shiver run down my spine as I reached her desk, the surface adorned with strange artifacts and dusty tomes bound in worn leather.
"What makes you think you can learn magic, Hana?" she asked, her voice low and measured, her wand still grasped in her hand.
I swallowed hard, my heart racing with anticipation. "I've always been fascinated by magic," I replied, my voice steady despite the tremble in my hands.
"I've watched from the outside, studied the movements, the incantations... I know it's not just about waving a wand and reciting words."
Professor Elwes raised an eyebrow, her expression unreadable. "Go on."
I took another deep breath, the words tumbling out of me like a pent-up flood. "I've seen the way magic can change lives, bring people together... I want to be a part of that."
The room fell silent, the only sound the soft hum of magic in the air.
Professor Elwes's gaze seemed to bore into my very soul, as if searching for any hidden motives or secrets.
Then, without warning, she nodded once, twice, and turned to face the class. "Welcome, Hana," she said, her voice ringing out across the room.
The students' whispers erupted into applause, their faces lighting up with excitement.
I felt a surge of elation, my heart soaring with the possibility that I might finally belong in this world of magic.
But as I turned to face the class, a sudden gust of wind swept through the room, extinguishing the candles and plunging us into darkness.
The air was filled with an eerie, pulsing energy, like the beat of a malevolent heart.
As the room plunged into darkness, I stood frozen, feeling the weight of the eerie energy pressing down.
Professor Elwes raised her wand, its tip glowing softly, casting a gentle light that revealed anxious faces around me.
She moved gracefully, inspecting the shadows that seemed to cling to the corners of the room.
Her voice was steady as she instructed us to remain calm and focused.
The students whispered nervously, their eyes darting about, as if searching for an escape from the oppressive atmosphere.
I watched as Professor Elwes traced a pattern in the air with her wand, her movements precise and deliberate.
The soft glow of her wand cast an eerie light on her face, making her features seem almost otherworldly.
Suddenly, a shadowy figure flickered in the corner, drawing everyone's attention.
Gasps echoed through the room as the figure solidified, its presence seeming to fill the space with an unspeakable malevolence.
Professor Elwes's eyes narrowed, her grip on her wand tightening as she took a step forward.
"Stay calm," she repeated, her voice firm but controlled.
But it was too late; panic had already set in.
The students scrambled to get away from the figure, their chairs scraping against the floor as they pushed back from their desks.
In the chaos, I felt a strange pull within me, a spark igniting where there had been none before.
