A feminine boy fall in love with another boy at High school.
I knew I was in love with him the first time I saw him.
He was standing by his locker, talking to a girl with long blonde hair.
Her name was Sarah, and she was really pretty.
As I watched, he smiled at her and put his arm around her waist.
My heart turned over inside my chest.
He was so masculine and athletic, with broad shoulders and strong arms.
Even though he was only a freshman, he was still one of the best players on the varsity football team.
I knew then that I wanted him.
I wanted to be that girl.
I wanted him to put his arm around me and smile at me the way he was looking at her now.
I wanted him to love me.
My name is Jamie Hart, and I'm a junior at Lincoln High School.
I'm not very big or strong myself - I'm kind of slender, actually - and I don't really fit anyone's idea of a 'typical' boy.
I like music and art, and I usually wear my hair long.
Sometimes people mistake me for a girl when they see me from behind.
I walk towards Lucas at his locker, my heart pounding in my chest like a drumbeat.
I pause, pretending to adjust my backpack, then take a deep breath and step closer.
The fluorescent lights above us hummed softly, casting an artificial glow over the bustling hallway.
Lucas is focused on his books, unaware of my approach, his brow furrowed in concentration.
I clear my throat softly, and he looks up, his eyes meeting mine with a hint of surprise.
For a moment, we just stare at each other, the sounds of the hallway fading into the background.
I manage a small smile and say, "Hey, Lucas, how's it going?"
He returns the smile, friendly as always, and replies, "Hey, Jamie, not bad. You?"
His voice is deep and smooth, sending a shiver down my spine.
I nod, trying to keep the conversation going, asking about his next class.
Lucas answers, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he talks about his math test.
I listen intently, trying to appear nonchalant despite my racing heart.
As he speaks, I take in the sight of him - the way his dark hair curls slightly at the nape of his neck, the way his eyes sparkle when he laughs.
He turns back to his locker, ending our brief exchange, and I feel a pang of disappointment.
But then he says, "Hey, Jamie, want to grab lunch together today?"
My heart skips a beat as I process his words.
"Uh, yeah," I stammer, trying to play it cool. "That sounds great."
Lucas nods and slams his locker shut. "Cool. Meet you at the cafeteria at 12?"
I nod again, still trying to process what just happened.
As I turn to walk away, I feel a tap on my shoulder.
"Hey," Lucas says, his voice low and conspiratorial. "You want to sit together on the bus ride home too?"
My heart is racing now, pounding in my ears like a drumline.
I nod again, trying to speak but my voice catches in my throat.
