"Alastar! Ryu! Tenzo! Wake up, it’s time to go to school!"
We heard our mother yell from downstairs.
It was already our first day of high school.
I woke up and saw my two brothers still sleeping; I went over to their beds and punched them both hard on their arms.
"WAKE UP!"
They both yelled in pain.
I sat back down on my bed and started to put on my shoes.
I have long black hair and I wear a black hoodie with jeans.
I am the younger brother; my name is Alastar.
The middle brother is named Ryu, and the older brother is named Tenzo.
Then both of them got out of their beds and started to brush their teeth in the bathroom.
Ryu has spikey red hair, and Tenzo has long curly dark blue hair.
We all look very different from each other, but we all have the same brown eyes.
We weren’t born in Riverfalls; we only moved there for a fresh start.
We were all born as werewolves, so we don’t look any different than humans our age.
We were not from the pack that lives in Riverfalls; we are from another pack that lives in a different city.
We started to get our bags and head down the stairs.
"Good morning, Mom," we all said as we walked into the kitchen.
I watched Tenzo shove the last of his eggs into his mouth.
Ryu rolled his eyes at our older brother.
Our mom put more bacon on our plates.
The smell of bacon made my stomach growl.
I looked out the kitchen window and saw the school bus coming down our street.
Tenzo jumped up and grabbed his backpack, almost knocking over his chair in the process.
Ryu and I exchanged a look.
Tenzo always had to be first at everything, so we followed him out the door.
As I walked out, I smelled something not human.
"Do you smell that too?" I asked, glancing at Ryu with a frown.
"Yeah," Ryu replied, his voice low and cautious. "It's like... another werewolf."
Tenzo paused, his hand on the door handle, and turned to us with a serious expression. "We need to find out who it is before they find us."
I led the way, following the scent of the mysterious werewolf through the suburban streets.
We walked past rows of identical houses, each one a mirror image of the last.
The scent grew stronger with every block, and I could feel my brothers' tension building behind me.
Finally, we reached a dirt path that cut between two overgrown hedges.
The trail veered off the main street and into a hidden corner of the neighborhood.
I pushed aside the branches, revealing an old Victorian house looming before us.
Its windows were boarded up, and the paint was peeling away from the weathered wood.
Ryu grabbed my arm, his eyes wide with fear.
"Look," he whispered, pointing to a set of fresh footprints in the mud leading up to the porch.
Tenzo held up a hand, signaling for us to stay quiet.
We crept closer to the house, our senses on high alert.
As we reached the porch, I noticed that the door was unlocked.
I exchanged a glance with my brothers before pushing it open slowly. The creaking of the floorboards beneath our feet echoed through the empty halls as we stepped inside.
The air was thick with dust and decay, and cobwebs hung like macabre tapestries from the ceiling.
I scanned the living room, taking in the remnants of a once-grand space: a chandelier hung precariously from its chain, while broken furniture littered the floor.
Ryu's gaze landed on something peculiar—a loose board in the wall, with scratch marks around its edges.
He nudged me with his elbow and pointed silently toward it.
Without a word, I knelt down beside him and carefully pried up the board.
"There's a notebook," I whispered, pulling it out and flipping through the pages.
Tenzo leaned over my shoulder, his eyes narrowing as he read. "These are notes about us—our family, our pack."
Ryu's voice trembled slightly as he spoke. "Someone's been watching us, and they know more than we thought."
