I was walking home from work, lost in thought over the recent layoffs and whether I would be next, when I stumbled upon a large stone portal.
I had never seen anything like it.
It was at least 10 feet tall and wide enough for three people to walk through at the same time.
I reached out to touch it, and as soon as I did, it flung open with a loud screech.
I took a step back in shock.
Inside the portal was a glowing white light that seemed to pulse with an otherworldly energy.
I felt myself being drawn to it, and before I knew it, I had stepped inside.
As soon as I did, the portal slammed shut behind me, and I was plunged into darkness.
When my eyes adjusted to the dim light, I found myself standing in the middle of a large stone cave.
It was at least 50 feet tall, and the walls were about 20 feet wide.
The air inside was stale, but not musty.
It was strange considering the cave looked like it had been undisturbed for centuries.
I looked around for any sign of life, but there was none.
No birds flying through the entrance or exit of the cave.
No small mammals scurrying across the floor.

I cautiously made my way deeper into the cavern, my footsteps echoing softly against the stone walls.
The air grew cooler as I walked, and I noticed faint glimmers of light reflecting off the damp surfaces.
It was as if the cave was alive, and it was watching me.
I continued on, my heart pounding in my chest.
I had no idea where I was or how to get back home.
As I turned a corner, I stumbled upon a large stone door.
It was covered in ancient symbols that looked like they had been carved by hand.
I reached out to touch them, and as soon as I did, the door creaked open.
Inside the room was a large stone pedestal with a glowing crystal sitting atop it.
The crystal seemed to pulsate with an otherworldly energy, and I could feel its power coursing through me.
Suddenly, I heard a voice behind me.
"Who are you?" it asked.
I turned to see a woman standing in the doorway.
She was dressed in a long white robe that billowed behind her like a cloud.
Her hair was long and flowing, and her eyes were like two stars shining brightly in the night sky.
"I am Jan," I replied, trying to keep my voice steady. "And you are?" she asked, her eyes narrowing slightly as she studied me.
"I am Fiona," she said, her voice like a gentle breeze on a summer's day.
"I am the healer of this land."
I nodded respectfully, trying not to stare at her beauty.
"I am lost," I said finally.
"I stumbled upon this place by accident."
Fiona's eyes widened slightly as she looked at me.
"You are from another world?" she asked, her voice filled with wonder.
"Yes," I replied, trying to keep my composure.
"I have never seen anything like this before."
Fiona nodded thoughtfully as she studied me.
"Come," she said finally.
"Let me show you around."
She led me through the caverns, pointing out different landmarks and explaining their significance.
As we walked, I noticed that the walls of the caverns were covered in strange symbols.
They looked like they had been carved by hand, and they seemed to shimmer and glow in the dim light of the caverns. Fiona noticed my interest and smiled softly.
"Those are ancient markings," she explained as we walked.
"They hold great power and knowledge. But they are also very dangerous. You should be careful not to touch them without knowing what you are doing."
"Why are they dangerous?" I asked, my curiosity piqued.
"They can awaken forces that have been dormant for centuries," Fiona replied, her voice tinged with caution.
"And what if they've already been awakened?" I pressed, sensing a deeper truth hidden in her words.
