Mr. Luo has entrusted me with the task of exhuming graves.
In a remote town shrouded in legend and superstition lies an unexplored burial ground.
Half the town believes the place cursed, the other half believes the area haunted.
I'm not one to believe in superstition, but I do respect it.
So I've taken every precaution before entering this sacred land.
Mark Jensen, a local historian and my guide, briefs me on the town's past.
"Archaeology was never conducted here due to the rumors of haunting and curses," he says.
"But I can tell you that the older generation still speaks of an ancient civilization that once inhabited this area."
He pauses, removing his glasses and cleaning them with a white handkerchief.
"I've studied the history of this town my entire life. I can tell you that there are at least twenty graves in that burial ground, each dating back over two thousand years."
I nod, taking note of what he says.
"What do you think we'll find?"
"I’m not sure. But if it’s true that an ancient civilization once lived here, then we might find something that will change the world."
Mark replaces his glasses and looks at me seriously.
The sun rises over the horizon, casting a golden glow over the burial ground.
Emily, Mark, and I stand at its edge, our breath visible in the crisp morning air.
"Let's get started," Emily says, her voice filled with excitement.
"Sarah, can you set up the camera equipment? Mark and I will get the excavation tools ready."
I nod and begin setting up my camera.
The ground is hard and unforgiving, each shovel full of earth a testament to the centuries it has held its secrets.
As Emily digs deeper, her shovel scrapes against something solid.
"What's that?"
I ask, my curiosity piqued.
"I'm not sure," she replies, her voice filled with anticipation.
"But let's find out."
She carefully uncovers a fragment of pottery, its intricate patterns hinting at a sophisticated culture.
Mark examines it closely, his eyes filled with wonder.
"This is incredible," he says.
"It's unlike anything I've ever seen before."
Emily carefully places the artifact in a protective case, ensuring its preservation for generations to come.
