Chapter 1

I was in love with Sakura Haruno.

I had been for years, and I knew that I would be for the rest of my life.

She was the most beautiful girl I’d ever seen, with her bright green eyes and her pink hair, and she was also one of the strongest ninjas I’d ever met.

She was fierce and determined, and she never backed down from a challenge.

And she was kind and compassionate, always putting others before herself.

She was everything I wasn’t, but everything I wanted to be.

We had grown up together in the Hidden Leaf Village, along with our other teammate Naruto Uzumaki.

The three of us had been inseparable as kids, but things had changed when we became genin and started on our ninja training.

Sakura and Naruto had both become stronger, while I…

Well, I had gone down a different path.

I’d always been a deep thinker, even as a child; I guess it came from growing up in the Uchiha clan and being surrounded by so many thoughtful and intelligent people.

So when I realized that I was in love with Sakura, I thought about what that meant and what I should do about it.

I knew I was too young to really understand love, but even at ten years old, it seemed pretty clear to me that one day, she would be the most important person in my life.

And when that day came, I would tell her how much she meant to me.

But for now, all I could do was watch her from a distance and try to ignore the way my heart raced every time she smiled at me.

Sakura was beautiful even as a child; her pink hair and bright green eyes set her apart from everyone else in our class.

She was also incredibly strong and smart, and she worked harder than anyone else to become a great ninja.

By the time we became genin, there were few kunoichi who could outfight or outthink her — except for Tsunade-sama, of course.

And every time I watched her fight or heal one of our teammates without hesitation, my admiration for her grew stronger until it finally turned into something more: love.

But things change over time, and fate has a funny way of messing up your plans when you least expect it.

After my brother Itachi killed our clan and I discovered the truth behind his actions, I knew that I could no longer stay in the Hidden Leaf Village.

The weight of my family’s dark history and destiny had become too much for me to bear, and I couldn’t pretend that everything was okay anymore — not after everything that had happened.

And so, I left with Orochimaru in search of power, so that I could kill my brother and avenge my clan’s destruction.

I never thought about what leaving would mean for Sakura or Naruto; at the time, all I cared about was gaining enough strength to achieve my goal.
