I was rummaging through one of the shelves in the old library, pulling out dusty tomes and glancing over their spines, when I finally found it.
It was an unassuming book with no visible title, bound in a black leather that felt strange under my fingers.
Not like the smooth, supple leather that I was used to.
More like…well, as if the book had been bound in human skin.
I shuddered and dropped it back onto the shelf.
But my curiosity had already been piqued.
I drew the book out once more and opened it up to the first page.
There was no title page, no indication of what the book was about or who had written it.
Only a single sentence, repeated over and over in languages I didn’t recognize.
I flipped through the pages.
They were all blank.
Except for the last one, which had a single sentence printed on it in English: "If you can read this, congratulations. You have passed the test."
I stared at it in confusion.
What kind of test was this?
Unveiling Powers: The Test of Destiny
I hesitated, glancing around the dim library, ensuring no one saw me slip the strange book into my bag.
Sarah and Mark were waiting outside, their chatter echoing through the quiet halls.
As I joined them, Mark raised an eyebrow at my secretive demeanor.
"What did you find?" he asked, adjusting his glasses.
I shrugged nonchalantly, but Sarah's curious gaze lingered on my bag.
We walked back to my apartment, the evening air crisp and silent.
Once inside, I placed the book on the table, its presence almost daring me to open it again.
With a deep breath, I reached for it.
The soft leather felt cool beneath my fingers as I lifted the cover, revealing the same blank pages I had seen earlier.
But now, with my friends watching, I felt a shiver run down my spine.
"Guys, I need to show you something," I said, trying to keep my voice steady.
Sarah and Mark exchanged a curious glance before leaning in closer.

I flipped to the last page, the sentence "If you can read this, congratulations. You have passed the test" staring back at me like a challenge.
"What does it mean?" Sarah asked, her brow furrowed in concern.
"I have no idea," I admitted, "but I think it's more than just some weird prank."
Mark's eyes lit up with excitement. "Maybe it's some kind of puzzle or game?"
I shook my head. "I don't think so. There's something...off about this book."
As I spoke, the room seemed to grow darker, the shadows cast by the flickering lamp dancing across the walls like living things.
Suddenly, a cold breeze swept through the apartment, extinguishing the lamp and plunging us into darkness.

"Did you feel that?" Sarah whispered, her voice trembling slightly.
Mark fumbled for his phone, the glow illuminating his face. "This isn't normal. It's like the book is alive."
I nodded, my heart pounding. "We need to figure out what it wants from us."
