Hogwarts Acceptance Letter
Kara read the letter for the tenth time, still not believing her eyes.
Her mentor?
What mentor?
And why closer to the date?
Why not now?
She looked around her room, realizing that she had less than a month to learn everything she could about magic before going to Hogwarts.
She sighed and put the letter down, looking at the attached sheet.
Required books:
* The Standard Book of Spells (Grade 1-5)
* A History of Magic
* Magical Theory and Application
* Potions (Grade 1-5)
* The Dark Arts (Against Them, Defense Against Them)
* One (1) wand
Material:
* Cauldron (Standard size)
* Wooden spoon
* Measuring cups (set of 5)
* Broomstick (for transportation)
Kara shook her head, muttering 'Broomstick? For transportation?' under her breath.
I sat at my cluttered desk, surrounded by the Hogwarts acceptance letter and the list of required materials.
My mind buzzed with questions about my mysterious mentor, Professor Fig.
Grabbing a quill and parchment, I began drafting a letter to Professor Weasley.
"Dear Professor Weasley," I wrote, "I am eager to learn more about my assigned mentor, Professor Fig.
Could you provide any details on when and how we will meet?"
I paused, considering my words carefully before continuing.
After sealing the letter with a wax stamp, I hurried to the owlery, selecting a reliable-looking barn owl to deliver my message.
The owl's soft hooting and gentle rustling of its wings as it settled onto its perch seemed to calm my racing thoughts.
I watched as the owl took flight, disappearing into the grey morning sky, carrying my hopes for answers with it.
With a sense of accomplishment, I turned back to my room, taking in the scattered papers and books that covered every available surface.
The clock on my mantle ticked away, reminding me that time was running out – I had less than a month to prepare for Hogwarts.
I sighed, feeling overwhelmed by the sheer amount of work ahead of me.
Where would I even begin?
As I pondered this, my gaze fell upon the list of required materials, and my eyes landed on the wand.
I had yet to acquire one – how did one even go about choosing a wand, anyway?
A sudden knock at the door broke the silence, making me jump in my seat.
"Come in," I called out, trying to sound calmer than I felt.
The door creaked open, revealing my older brother, Leo, with a mischievous grin.
"Did I hear something about a wand?" he asked, leaning casually against the doorframe.
"Yes, but I have no idea where to start," I admitted, hoping he might have some advice.
I glanced up as Leo entered my room, his familiar presence a welcome distraction.
He noticed the scattered parchment and the Hogwarts letter, his eyes softening with understanding.
"Nervous?" he asked, leaning against the doorframe.
I nodded, admitting the truth I had been avoiding.
"A bit," I confessed, my voice barely above a whisper.
"It's all so overwhelming."
Leo crossed the room and enveloped me in a comforting hug, his warmth easing some of my tension.
"You'll be fine," he assured me, pulling back to meet my gaze.
"Just be yourself."
His words lingered as I returned to packing, trying to focus on the task at hand.
But my mind kept wandering back to the mysterious Professor Fig and what lay ahead at Hogwarts.
Leo settled onto my bed, watching me with an amused expression as I struggled to fold a particularly stubborn piece of parchment.
"You know, I've been thinking," he said, his voice casual.
"What's that?" I asked, not looking up from my task.
"I might come with you to Diagon Alley to get your wand."
My head snapped up, surprise written across my face.
"Really?" I asked, hope rising in my chest.
Leo nodded, a mischievous glint in his eye.
"I've heard rumors of a new wand shop opening up – one that specializes in unusual woods and cores."
Intrigue sparked within me, and I felt a surge of excitement at the prospect of exploring this new shop with Leo by my side.
"Let's go," I said, already imagining the possibilities.
We made our way out of my room, the creaking of the stairs beneath our feet echoing through the silent hallway.
As we reached the front door, Leo turned to me with a serious expression.
"Kara, remember – your true power lies within you."
His words sent a shiver down my spine, and I felt a strange energy coursing through my veins.
Before I could respond, he pushed open the door, revealing a sleek black coach waiting for us on the driveway.
I turned to Leo, my curiosity piqued.
"Did you arrange this?" I asked, gesturing to the coach.
He smirked, his eyes twinkling with a secret.
"Let's just say Professor Fig isn't the only one with surprises up his sleeve."
