I was at the Parker’s Prestige Clinic.
The clinic is famous for its discretion, and offers procedures that can change a person’s appearance significantly and permanently.
It’s located in the city center, but people don’t know where exactly it is, because the clinic doesn’t have a sign or anything to indicate what it is.
I am currently sitting in the waiting room of the clinic.
I just got an email and a strange feeling led me here.
The receptionist asked me for my name, so I said, “Johnson Dave.”
She smiled and said, “Please wait for a moment, Mr.
Thank you for coming.”
I didn’t make an appointment or anything.
How did she know I was coming?
And why did I feel like I want to come here?
I’m not sure myself.
I went to high school like everyone else, but I wasn’t good at studying, so I never went to college after graduation.
I’ve stayed at home all the time since then, without any achievements or friends.
I played games alone every day; I didn’t even have a girlfriend.
I was like an invisible man in the world.
The door of the clinic opened, and a middle-aged man who looked 40 years old came out.
A nurse followed him carrying a baby.
He was holding the baby and smiling happily.
By the time I realized it, he had already walked out of the clinic with the nurse.
It seemed that the man had done something on his face to make him look young again and have a baby when he was 40 years old.
It’s amazing that science can do that, but how did he manage to have a baby?
I shook my head as if to rid myself of such thoughts and stood up.
“Mr.Johnson Dave, please come in.” The receptionist saw me and said with a smile.
I went into the consultation room.
Inside was a woman in her thirties wearing a white coat.
The woman looked pretty with a good figure.
She smiled when she saw me and said, “Hello, Mr.Johnson Dave, I am Dr.Emily Parker.”
“Hello, Dr.Parker.” I nodded politely to her.
“Please take a seat.” She pointed to the sofa.
I sat down and looked at her curiously.
Dr.Parker is the most famous cosmetic surgeon in the city.
She’s the doctor who performed the most difficult surgeries in the city.
As the number one cosmetic surgeon, she has a high status among her colleagues.
As a cosmetic surgeon, I thought they would need to wear a mask or something to protect their skin.
However, Dr.Emily Parker didn’t wear a mask.
In fact, she didn’t wear any makeup.
There was only a light foundation on her face.
Her long hair was tied behind her head into a ponytail.
I heard that she was single and didn’t have a boyfriend, but there were many men who were interested in her.
Dr.Parker is famous for being beautiful and sexy, but she is also cold and has a high standard when it comes to men.
She didn’t even look at me, so I just sat there and waited.
After a while, she looked up from the computer and looked at me, “Do you know why we called you here?”
I shrugged and said, “No.”
She typed on the computer and said, “We are currently conducting a new research project on the invisibility gene.
"Unseen Shadows"
This research project is not open to the public, so we have only called you here.
I don’t know if you are interested in being our research subject.”
“Is it true that I will be invisible in the future?”
I asked in disbelief.
Dr.Parker nodded and said, “Yes, it’s true.”
I hesitated for a moment and asked, “Is it an irreversible procedure?”
She put down the pen and said, “Yes, it is.”
I looked at her and thought about it.
I didn’t know how long I had stayed there with Dr.Parker.
When I walked out of the clinic, it was already dark.
The words Dr.Parker had said kept echoing in my mind: “The procedure is irreversible.”
I took out the paper with the address of the clinic and looked at it again.
I was still in shock.
If I became invisible, would it be a good thing or a bad thing?
I was just an ordinary person who lived an ordinary life.
I had nothing special about me and nothing special happened to me.
No one knew me at school.
I was just another student there.
There were many students like me at school, but no one paid attention to me.
Being invisible was just like me.
My parents didn’t expect too much from me either.
They would be satisfied as long as I could live happily.
Therefore, I lived an ordinary life without any fame or achievements.
Being invisible was just like my life.
If I could become invisible, would it be a good thing?
If I could become invisible, would anyone notice it?
If I could become invisible, would it be difficult for me to adapt to my new body?
A lot of questions popped up in my mind and made me feel anxious.
After thinking about it for a while, I decided to give it a try.
I had nothing to lose anyway.
If something bad happened after the procedure, I could just ask Dr.Parker to change it back for me.
If something bad happened after the procedure… What should I do then?
If I could become invisible, what would I do?
I had thought about it for many times before.
If I could become invisible one day, I would go to the girls’ changing room to take a look at their bodies and even touch them.
But I wouldn’t do that because I wasn’t that kind of person.
I was just curious.
There were many superpowers that I wanted to have when I was young.
I wanted to have super speed and super strength like Spiderman.
I wanted to be able to fly like Superman.
I wanted to have the power of invisibility like the Invisible Woman.
But after thinking about it carefully, I realized that I didn’t want any of the superpowers.
Only the power of invisibility intrigued me.
It seemed that it could relieve the pressure of being someone or something in particular.
I just wanted to live my life as freely as possible without any restrictions.
To me, being invisible meant that no one would notice me or pay attention to me.

I stood in front of Dr.Parker’s office and considered the problem that I had in front of me.
The only problem was the money.
I had to pay for the transformation with my own money.
I had thought about it for many times before, but I didn’t expect that it would cost so much money.
It seemed that I had no chance to become invisible this time.
The money wouldn’t be enough even if I used all of my savings to pay for the transformation.
Well… I’m afraid that I have to go back to work at the car wash tomorrow…
“Dave, are you willing to pay for the transformation?”
Dr.Parker asked me politely when she saw me standing in front of her office.
“Yes,” I answered subconsciously and nodded at her at the same time because she looked so charming in front of me.
I couldn’t help myself from nodding at her because she was so beautiful and charismatic.
She told me the price of the transformation just now!
How could I nod at her!
The cost of the transformation is one hundred thousand dollars! You have to pay for it yourself!”
Dr.Parker looked at me with a smile and said, “I’ll give you a 50% discount, so the total cost will be fifty thousand dollars.”
I was dumbfounded when she told me the new price.
I thought that I would be able to afford the transformation with the money that I earned from working at the car wash for so many years, but I was wrong.
The total cost of the transformation was only fifty thousand dollars, but I could only earn around two hundred dollars per month when I worked at the car wash.
I had only saved two thousand four hundred dollars in total after working at the car wash for more than ten years.
I would have to work for more than twenty years to save enough money to afford the transformation!
If I could get the power of invisibility, I might be able to make a fortune in the future.
But that’s just wishful thinking.
I might not be able to make much money even if I had the power of invisibility.
Now that I had no chance to afford the transformation, should I leave now?
“Dave, are you sure you want to pay for the transformation?”
Dr.Parker asked me again when she saw that I didn’t say anything for a long time.
There might be some complications after the transformation.
You might die, or you might not be able to change back to your original appearance.”
I know what she meant.
She told me that there would be some risks after the transformation just now when we were in her office.
But I felt that it was worth taking the risk.
“Yes,” I answered her firmly, “I’ll pay for it.”
“Alright,” Dr.Parker nodded at me and said, “Please sign this contract first.”
I signed my name on the contract after she gave it to me.
The contract stated that I couldn’t tell anyone about what happened here today, and they would refund my money if they failed to complete the transformation for me.
