A boy had came to a girl's house to have some "fun"
Sarah Jennings
Emily's best friend and confidante, not directly involved with Jake initially, curly blonde hair, brown eyes, supportive and witty.
Jake Miller
the visiting boy, friends with Emily, short black hair, blue eyes, charming and spontaneous.
Emily Carter
the girl at home, friends with the visiting boy, long brown hair, green eyes, cautious yet curious.
"Hey, what's up?"
I said, answering the phone.
"Hey, babe."
Jake's voice was smooth like silk.
Just hearing him talk made my heart skip a beat.
"Nothing much. What about you?"
"I'm good. I was wondering if you were free to hang out today?"
Jake asked.
"Yeah, I'm free."
I didn't have any plans other than sitting around the house doing nothing.
"Want me to come pick you up?"
Jake asked.
"No, it's okay. I'll just meet you at your place."
I didn't want his mom to see me getting into his car.
Even though she knew we were just hanging out as friends, I still didn't want her to think there was anything going on between us.
Plus I wasn't really sure what her deal was.
She seemed really cool and all, but I still didn't want to give her any reason to think I was after her son.
Plus I liked having my own transportation so I could leave whenever I wanted.
Plus it just made things easier all the way around.
"Okay cool. See you then."
I pulled out my phone and typed out a quick text to Jake.
"Hey, change of plans. Want to meet at the park instead of your place?"
I hesitated for a moment before hitting send, wondering if he'd be okay with the sudden change.
But Jake's response came quickly, and I breathed a sigh of relief.
"Sounds good to me! See you soon"
I smiled, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness as I started up my car and headed to the park.
The sun was shining brightly as I pulled into the parking lot, casting a warm glow over the swings and slides.
I spotted Jake waiting by the swings, his messy brown hair sticking up in every direction as he leaned against the chain-link fence.
I felt a flutter in my chest as I got out of the car and walked towards him, trying to play it cool.
We exchanged a casual hug, his arms wrapping around me in a friendly squeeze before releasing me.
"Hey," he said, smiling lazily.
"Hey," I replied, smiling back.
I suggested we walk around the park, and Jake nodded agreeably, falling into step beside me.
As we strolled along the winding path, I couldn't help but notice how relaxed Jake seemed.
His usual energy was toned down, replaced by a calm, laid-back vibe that was kind of nice to be around.
We chatted about school and friends, exchanging stories and laughter as we walked.
But despite the easy conversation, I sensed that Jake was holding something back.
There was a hint of tension beneath his relaxed exterior, a subtle tightness in his shoulders that I couldn't quite put my finger on.
I decided to ask him directly what was on his mind, curiosity getting the better of me.
"Hey, Jake?" I said, slowing my pace as we approached a small pond.
"What's going on?" I asked, my voice low and gentle.
Jake's gaze flickered away from mine, his eyes darting towards the water before snapping back to me.
"I've been meaning to tell you something," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
My heart skipped a beat as I braced myself for whatever was coming next.
"I'm moving away at the end of the month."
