Emily's son, relationships with his friends and mother, early 20s with a athletic build, protective but naive.

the mother, relationships with her son and the seven friends, mid40s with a fit body, curious and openminded.

I've never considered myself much of a "party animal".

I don't really enjoy loud music, big crowds, or the taste of most party drinks.

I do enjoy people watching, and I do like to dance if the music is good.

So when my son Jason invited me to his 21st birthday party I decided to go.

I figured it would be weird for a mom to go to a college kid's birthday party, but he insisted that I come and even offered to pick me up.

I was touched that he wanted me there so much.

The party was being held at the house of one of his friends, Mark Benson.

Jason had told me about all of his friends, but I had yet to meet any of them.

As we drove up to the house I noticed that there were quite a few cars parked outside.

Jason seemed a little embarrassed by it, saying that everyone had carpooled and that there were only about 10 people coming.

We walked up to the house and Jason knocked on the door.

A voice from inside shouted "Come in".

Jason opened the door and walked in, expecting me to follow.

The first thing I noticed when I walked into the living room was that everyone was drinking beer out of red cups.

The second thing I noticed was the banner that read, "Welcome, Mom!"
