Emily Carter
central character, friends with Jake and Sarah, short brown hair, green eyes, empathetic and cautious
"Hey, babe."
Jake throws his arm around my shoulder as he pulls me into a tight side hug.
"Thanks for coming out with us. I know you’re still studying for your exam, but it’ll be fun, I promise."
He smiles and my heart skips a beat.
His smile could light up a room.
It’s so sexy, so contagious that you can’t help but want to look at him when he’s near.
When he smiles at you, you feel like you’re the only person in the world.
I’ve seen him smile at countless girls over the years, but I’ve also seen a different side of him.
A side that makes my stomach clench in fear.
"What’s wrong?"
Sarah asks, turning to me with concern etched on her pretty face as she notices my tense body.
Jake tightens his grip on me for a second before releasing me and stepping back.
He looks me over from head to toe before his eyes come back to my face.
My short brown hair must be a mess after being out in the wind, but I don’t care right now.
I know I probably look like shit compared to Sarah with her long blonde hair and blue eyes that match Jake’s intense blue ones.
She’s outgoing and beautiful, the complete opposite of me.
"Nothing’s wrong. So what did you have planned?"
I ask, trying to shake off whatever this feeling is.
