Hi!
My name is Timmy Hartsfield.
I'm six years old.
I love adventure.
I have two best friends in the whole wide world.
Their names are Ellie and Elly.
They're my plush toy elephants.
Ellie is a girl and Elly is a boy.
They go with me everywhere I go except when I'm at school.
My mom doesn't think that's a good idea.
Ellie and Elly are small and cuddly.
They have soft gray fur with floppy ears and long tails.
They're really cute!
Sometimes I pretend they're real and talk to them as if they can hear me.
I know that's silly, but it's fun!
When I'm at home alone with them, I use my imagination to make us have adventures together.
We explore the jungles of Africa, we climb mountains, we sail across the oceans and we go on treasure hunts.
We have so much fun together!
We always have each other's backs.
I'm standing at the foot of my bed, looking up at the mountain of pillows that's been stacked up on top of it.
My eyes are wide with excitement.
Ellie and Elly are sitting on top of the mountain, looking down at me.
They're waving their ears at me and shouting, "You can do it, Timmy!"
I take a deep breath and start my ascent.
I grab onto the first pillow and pull myself up.
I'm giggling as I slip and slide on the softness of the pillows.
My heart is racing with each step as I make my way higher and higher.
Finally, I reach the top and throw my arms up in the air in triumph.
Ellie and Elly hug me tightly and we all fall over laughing.
We're ready for our next adventure!
When I'm done playing, I put Ellie and Elly back in their usual place on my bed.
There's a big elephant that sits on my nightstand that I call Ellie's mom.
She watches over us when we're sleeping.
Sometimes I'll have Ellie and Elly go on adventures with their mom too.
But usually they like to stay with me because I'm their best friend.
I wake up early on Saturday morning, feeling like I'm going to burst with excitement.
I'm going to have an adventure today!
I'm going to the children's museum with my mom and dad.
I've been waiting for weeks for this day to come.
I grab Ellie and Elly and whisper to them, "Today's the day! We're going to the children's museum!"
They wiggle in my hands as I stuff them into my backpack.
I zip it up and pat it gently.
"Don't worry, guys. You'll be safe in there."
My mom calls me from downstairs, "Timmy, are you ready to go?"
"Yes!" I shout back.
I run downstairs and grab a bowl of cereal for a quick breakfast.
Then we're out the door!
We drive for a few minutes until we reach the museum.
When we get out of the car, I look up at the big building and gasp in amazement.
There are so many colors and pictures on the walls!
I can't wait to get inside!
My dad pays for our tickets and we walk through the doors.
Wow!
There's so much to see!
Ellie and Elly are peeking out of my backpack, looking around at all the exhibits.
I burst into the dinosaur exhibit, my eyes wide with wonder.
"Dinosaurs!" I shout.
My mom and dad follow me, laughing.
I tug on their hands, pulling them forward.
"Look! A T-Rex!"
I point up at the towering skeleton.
My heart is pounding with excitement.
Ellie and Elly are looking up at it too.
Their plush faces are filled with awe.
I imagine them roaring like dinosaurs and giggle to myself.
My parents smile as they watch me explore.
I run over to a display and press my nose against the glass.
"Mom, what's this one called?"
I ask, not taking my eyes off the dinosaur.
"It's a Velociraptor," she answers.
I whisper to Ellie and Elly, "This is a Velociraptor. He's really fast."
Next I go to a big dinosaur that's bent over, eating some plants.
"What about this one?"
I ask my dad.
"This is a Diplodocus," he answers.
"He eats plants."
I whisper to Ellie and Elly, "This is a Diplodocus. He eats plants."
The room is filled with the sound of children's laughter and chatter.
There are so many kids here today!
I walk into the next room and stop in my tracks.
My eyes are fixed on a giant skeleton that's towering above me.
It's a wooly mammoth!
I've never seen anything so big before!
I pull Elly out of my backpack and place her by the mammoth's massive foot.
Wow!
She looks so tiny compared to the giant creature.
I grin as I take a picture of her with my mom's phone.
When I look at the screen, I burst into laughter.
Elly is so small compared to the mammoth!
I'm distracted by another exhibit and rush off, forgetting about Elly.
Hours later, as we're driving home, I suddenly remember something.
My heart starts racing as I pat my backpack.
Where's Elly?
I didn't put her back in my backpack!
I left her at the museum!
Panic grips me as I shout, "Mom! Dad! Stop the car!"
They look at each other in alarm and pull over to the side of the road.
"What's wrong, Timmy?"
My mom asks, looking back at me with concern.
"I left Elly at the museum," I tell them, feeling tears prick at the corners of my eyes.
My heart is pounding as I beg them, "Please turn the car around. We have to go get her!"
My mom nods and my dad makes a quick U-turn.
I clutch Ellie tightly and whisper to her, "Don't worry. We'll get Elly back soon."
The car speeds through traffic and I watch the clock anxiously.
The museum closes at five and it's already four forty-five.
I hope we make it!
When we pull up to the museum, I leap out of the car and race towards the entrance.
My parents follow close behind.
We rush up to the front desk where a kind-looking woman greets us.
"Hi there! Did you lose something?"
My mom asks her.
"Yes," I tell her, feeling tears prick at my eyes again.
"I left my elephant over there."
I point to the mammoth exhibit.
The woman smiles and says, "Let me show you where it is."
She leads us to the exhibit and I scan the floor frantically.
Where's Elly?
Did someone take her?
Suddenly I see her peeking out from under the mammoth's foot.
I dash forward and scoop Elly up, relief flooding through me as I hug the plush elephant tightly.
My heart slows down and I smile, feeling whole again.
Ellie, still in my backpack, peeks out and seems to sigh with relief too.
I thank the woman at the front desk, who smiles warmly at our reunion.
My parents watch, relieved and amused by my devotion to my toys.
As we leave the museum, I hold both Ellie and Elly close.
"I'm sorry I left you behind," I tell them.
"I promise to never do it again. But we'll have more adventures together soon!"
The three of us walk back to the car and my parents buckle me in.
I hold Ellie and Elly tightly as we drive home.
I'm so grateful to have them back!
When we get home, Mama Ellie is waiting for us on the couch.
She's been watching TV all day and looks happy to see us.
I give her a big hug and say, "I'm sorry I left Elly behind. It won't happen again!"
Mama Ellie smiles at me and wraps her trunk around me and the girls.
I snuggle into the couch beside Ellie and Elly.
They're nestled beside me and their big brown eyes seem to sparkle with excitement.
I grin at them as I tell them, "You know what we should do tomorrow?"
Ellie and Elly look up at me eagerly and I can sense their anticipation.
"We should fly kites!"
I exclaim.
Ellie and Elly nod eagerly, bobbing their heads up and down.
I imagine the colorful kites soaring high in the sky, feeling the wind rush past them as they glide effortlessly through the air.
They'll be like birds, flying so high that they'll be tiny dots in the sky.
My heart starts racing as I picture the open field where we'll fly them.
We'll laugh and shout as we watch them dance in the wind!
Mama Ellie watches us from her spot on the couch, smiling gently at our enthusiasm.
The next morning, I wake up early and rush downstairs to eat breakfast.
After I finish, I grab my backpack and stuff Ellie and Elly inside.
I'm so excited for our adventure today!
When my mom is ready, we head out to the car.
We drive to the park and find a beautiful open field where we can fly our kites.
I dash across the field, feeling the wind rush past me as I run.
The kite string unwinds in my hand as the kite catches the breeze and soars high.
Ellie and Elly peek out from my backpack, their plush faces filled with joy.
They're loving this as much as I am!
I laugh and glance back at my mom, who watches with a smile.
She's happy to see me so carefree!
As I watch the kite, I imagine Ellie and Elly flying alongside it.
Their little plush trunks flapping in the wind as they soar through the air.
My heart swells with happiness, knowing that they're sharing this moment with me.
I promise them, "We'll have more adventures soon! We'll go to the museum again and learn about all the amazing things in the world. Then we'll get ice cream cones and eat them on the bench outside. And after that, we'll come back here and fly our kites again!"
Ellie and Elly nod eagerly, bobbing their heads up and down.
I can sense their excitement for all our adventures to come!
As I watch them, I feel grateful for my tiny companions.
They may be small, but they bring so much joy to my life.
My mom walks across the field, holding her own kite.
She smiles at me as she says, "Let's fly them together!"
I grin back at her and we watch as both kites soar high in the sky.
The wind catches them and they dance in the air, their tails streaming behind them.
I laugh with joy and my mom joins in, her laughter mixing with mine.
Ellie and Elly peek out from my backpack, watching the kites with wide eyes.
They're loving this as much as I am!
I feel a rush of joy and my heart feels light and free.
I run faster, urging my kite higher into the sky.
Ellie and Elly peek out from my backpack, their plush faces filled with delight.
The sun starts to set, casting a warm orange glow over the field.
I watch as the kites glide effortlessly through the air, feeling grateful for this moment with my mom.
I promise Ellie and Elly, "We'll have more adventures soon! We'll come back here and fly our kites again. And we'll go to the museum again and learn about all the amazing things in the world. Then we'll get ice cream cones and eat them on the bench outside."
