I remember the day I met Marcus Flynn like it was yesterday.
And not because it was a significant event in my life.
It’s just that all my days are the same.
I don’t remember anything before waking up in the middle of the forest.
I didn’t know who I was or why I was there.
So, all my days are similar because they are all the same.
I wake up, I hunt, I eat, I learn, I get bored, I sleep.
But that day was different because that was the first day I met a human.
Marcus Flynn.
He was rugged and strong with a kind face.
A scientist.
When I first saw him he was sitting by a fire and writing in a journal.
He looked at me when I approached, but he didn’t react like most humans do when they see something they’ve never seen before.
He just observed me, like I was some kind of animal.
After a while, he stood up and approached me slowly.
He held his hand out and said: "Hello?"
I took his hand and then shook it because that’s what he did after we touched palms.
That was the start of my education.
Marcus stayed for a few months before returning to Earth.
During that time he taught me about the universe, from the stars to atoms.
He also taught me about Earth and its inhabitants, including their concept of time.
