My journey through ancient times
The desert sun beat down on me as I knelt in the sand.
My latest excavation site was turning out to be a bust.
Sand flew everywhere as I threw another shovelful of dirt over my shoulder.
I stopped and brushed the sand from my face.
I was getting tired, not just from the physical labor, but from the whole trip.
It had been a waste of time.
Marcus Reed was going to steal my funding again.
I sighed and threw another shovelful of sand over my shoulder.
As I did, something caught my eye.
Something metal.
Something old.
I stopped digging and brushed away the remaining sand.
Sarah came over to look.
"What is it?"
She bent over next to me, dusting away the sand with her brush.
"I don't know. It's metal, but it doesn't look like anything I've ever seen before."
Sarah took my brush and used both of ours to sweep away the remaining sand.
As more and more of the object was revealed, we both sat back on our heels, mouths open in amazement.
It was some kind of box, about the size of a shoebox.
