Rain poured down.
The car windows were foggy.
I rubbed my eyes.
Everything was so blurry.
I turned my head.
The pain made me stop.
My head was pounding.
I tried to remember what had happened, but I couldn't recall anything.
A low voice talks to me.
"Are you awake?"
I tried to answer, but my throat was dry.
I cleared it and then said, "Y-yes."
"You can try to sit."
The voice said.
I slowly sat up and then looked around.
There was a small light on the dashboard that made it hard to see anything else.
I looked at the person who was talking to me.
He was young, maybe the same age as me.
He had messy brown hair and green eyes.
He was looking at me with concern.
"What happened?"
I said.
"You hit your head."
He said.
"I don't remember."
I said.
"Do you remember your name?"
I looked at him, trying to piece together the fragments of my memory. "Annette," I finally said, my voice barely above a whisper.
His eyes softened with relief. "Good, that's a start," he replied, a gentle smile spreading across his face.
But the fog in my mind thickened as I glanced out the window again, the neon lights casting eerie shadows on my thoughts.
"Where am I?" I asked, my voice trembling.
He hesitated, glancing at the road ahead before answering. "You're in the future," he said simply.
The words hit me like a wave, and panic surged through me. My breathing quickened, and I clutched the seat tightly, feeling the world spin around me.
The car's interior seemed to shrink, the air growing thick and heavy. I felt like I was suffocating under the weight of his words.
I turned to him, my eyes searching for answers. "What do you mean?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.
He didn't respond immediately, his gaze fixed on the road ahead. The only sound was the soft hum of the car's engine and the gentle patter of raindrops on the roof.
Suddenly, he swerved to the side, and I jerked forward, my heart racing. The tires screeched in protest as we took a sharp turn onto a narrow alleyway.
"What's going on?" I demanded, alarm rising in my chest.
"We need to get out of here," he muttered, his eyes darting between the rearview mirror and the road ahead.
Before I could ask why, he slammed on the brakes, and we skidded to a halt. The car's door burst open, and a figure loomed in the doorway, their face obscured by shadows.
"Get out," they growled, their voice low and menacing.
My heart racing, I turned to him for guidance, but his face was set in a grim determination. He reached out and grabbed my arm, pulling me towards the door...
