Hi I am Alberto’s son.
You know the Mexican store owner?
Yeah me.
Anyway my wizard Grandpa was freeze dried in a little dungeon I found in my basement.
He was made that way by dark magic and stayed like that for decades until I found him and touched him which broke the spell that held him frozen.
Now we go on adventures about crazy stuff and nonsense with Jessie the emo robot of the town that some random professor made.
My mom is either always on vacation or a helicopter mom.
She put me in karate classes but I don’t know karate.
I know magic though.
My Grandpa taught me.
My Grandpa is a wizard.
He was freeze-dried in a little dungeon I found in my basement.
That sounds nuts, but it’s true.
I didn’t believe it at first, either.
But it’s really my Grandpa—my mom’s dad.
And he’s a real wizard with magic and everything.
He got stuck in the dungeon by some bad people who cast a spell on him to make him freeze-dried.
Then they sealed up the dungeon so he would stay freeze-dried and couldn’t get out.
The Wizard's Grandson
I was in the basement looking for a ball I lost when I found him.
He was just a little bag of freeze-dried stuff, but it said his name on the bag.
So I touched him and he turned into my Grandpa.
I didn’t know he was a wizard until he started doing magic stuff.
It’s been pretty cool.
But sometimes it’s kind of scary too.
Like right now.
Grandpa is floating cross-legged in the air above the counter at my dad’s store.
He’s making all the candy bars dance around in circles and all the customers are staring at him with their mouths hanging open.
"¡Ezra! ¡Basta ya!" my dad yells at him in Spanish, but Grandpa just laughs and waves his wand around.
The Wizard's Grandson
The candy bars start flying off the shelves and zooming around his head like they’re little airplanes.
Then he makes a big purple swirly portal open up in the ceiling and it starts sucking up bags of potato chips and cans of soda from the shelves.
I run over to try to grab his robe to stop him, but he’s already zooming down the aisles turning people’s shopping carts into giant rubber ducks. "Ahhh!"
Mrs. Johnson screams as her cart-duck waddles away from her towards the frozen foods section.
I run after Grandpa, dodging flying cans of beans and packs of gum that are flying off the shelves.
Grandpa cackles maniacally as he opens another purple portal that starts sucking up boxes of cereal and bags of bread.
I duck behind a shelf to avoid getting hit by a flying loaf of whole wheat bread, then jump out and chase after him again as he runs into the back room where all the pet food is stored.
He waves his wand around and all the dog food bowls start filling up with kibble and milk, then all the dogs start barking and jumping around their cages, trying to get to their food.
"Grandpa, you have to stop this before the whole store turns into a circus!" I shout, trying to get his attention.
He glances back at me with a mischievous grin, "Ah, but Ezra, where's the fun in that? Besides, there's something important hidden here, and I need a little chaos to find it."

Jessie rolls up beside me, her eyes glowing with concern, "If he doesn't stop soon, the dimensional fabric might tear—again."
I watch in dismay as Grandpa floats past the cereal aisle, turning boxes into miniature fireworks that burst into colorful confetti and glitter.
"¡Ezra!"
My dad yells at me from the back room, "¿Qué está pasando?!"
"What’s going on?!"
I hear him yell in Spanish, but I don’t know how to answer.
I’m still trying to get Grandpa to stop making a mess.
He runs past the dairy section and turns all the milk jugs into giant ice cream cones that start melting on the floor.
I grab his robe and try to pull him back, but he just laughs and zaps my hand with a tiny jolt of magic that makes me let go.
"Grandpa! Stop! Please!"
I shout at him as he runs down the frozen foods aisle and starts turning it into a tropical paradise.

Palm trees burst out of the ceiling and their trunks start growing thicker and taller until they hit the ceiling tiles and start breaking through them.
Jessie’s eyes flash red as she watches, "The dimensional tear is growing," she says in her monotone voice.
I’ve had enough.
"No more adventures!"
I shout, stomping towards the front door of the store. Jessie steps in front of me, blocking my path.
The Wizard's Grandson
"You can’t leave now," she says, her eyes glowing bright red again.
I shove her out of the way and slam through the front door, running down Main Street as fast as I can.
