The last subway train was as usual empty.
I sat down in the first carriage, and as soon as I sat down, the announcement came, "Next stop: Daoshi Station."
Then a pause, followed by, "This is the last subway train of the night."
Another pause, "Next stop: unknown."
I froze.
This was different from what usually happened.
The announcement always said which station was next, not "unknown."
I stood up and walked over to the subway scheduler who was sitting in his booth with his head down, playing no attention to me.
"Excuse me, this is the last subway train of the night. Could you tell me where this train is going?"
The male subway scheduler looked up at me and laughed, "You want to know where this train is going? Ha! You’ll know when you get there."
I frowned and went back to my seat.
This man seemed to know more than he was letting on.
I decided I would follow this train and see where it would end up.
As soon as I sat down again, the lights in the train car began to flicker.
I stood up and looked around, wondering what was going on.
Suddenly, a figure appeared in front of me.
He was wearing an old-fashioned subway uniform with a hat on his head.
He looked at me before disappearing into thin air.
I froze in shock.
I had heard stories about this person appearing on the last subway train.
The Vanishing Last Subway Train
I rushed through the carriage, my footsteps echoing off the metal floors.
The elder's uniform had disappeared around the corner into the next car.
Following him, I gripped my phone tightly, hoping to record any evidence.
The connecting door slid open with a hiss, revealing an empty car.
Newspapers littered the seats, all dated from the day my sister had vanished.
The elder stood at the far end, his back turned to me.
I approached cautiously, my heart pounding in my chest.
He held something in his hand - a bracelet I recognized as my sister’s favorite.
She wore it every day and would never take it off unless forced to.
As I reached out to touch it, the train plunged into darkness, leaving me alone with the truth.
The Vanishing Last Subway Train
As my vision adjusted to the harsh fluorescent lights, I found myself frozen in place, mere inches from the elder's weathered face.
His eyes locked onto mine with an unsettling intensity, and I noticed deep wrinkles around them that seemed to shift like ripples in water.
The bracelet dangled from his gnarled fingers, swaying hypnotically between us.
I reached for it, but he stepped back, maintaining our eye contact.
His uniform bore an unfamiliar logo - a twisted version of the current subway symbol.
The Vanishing Last Subway Train
The air grew thick with static electricity, making my skin prickle.
"Why do you have my sister's bracelet?" I demanded, my voice barely steady.
The elder's eyes softened, and he replied, "She left it with me as a promise, a promise to find her way back."
"What do you mean?" I pressed, feeling a mix of hope and dread.
