I was walking down the street, enjoying the night air.
It was my first time to see the city at night, and it felt different from the daytime.
The streetlights lit up the dark sky, and the traffic lights blinked red, yellow, and green.
I had just moved to this city a few days ago.
Everything was new to me: people, streets, buildings, and shops.
I had walked around my neighborhood during the day, but I had not seen it at night.
I thought I would take a little walk after dinner, so I could see what it looked like when it was dark.
I turned a corner and continued down the sidewalk.
Suddenly, I saw something glinting on the ground.
I stopped and picked it up—a quartz crystal!
I had never seen one before.
I wasn’t even sure what it looked like.
But I had read about quartz crystals in books.
They were supposed to be good luck charms.
I tucked the quartz into my pocket and continued my walk.
When I got home, I took out the quartz and examined it more closely.
It was about two inches long and half an inch thick.
One end was pointed, and the other end was flat.
I set the quartz beside my lamp, and the soft light made its crystalline surface sparkle.
My new apartment was still unfamiliar.
The walls were bare, and there were boxes to be unpacked everywhere.
But I didn’t have the energy to do any of that right now.
I lay down in bed, and as I drifted off to sleep, I watched the shadows dance on the ceiling.
They came from the headlights of cars driving by outside.
It was a long day, but my mind kept going back to the crystal.
Something about it felt important, but I couldn’t put my finger on why.
My eyelids grew heavy as I stared at the quartz shimmering under the lamp light.
The city sounds faded into the background: distant sirens, voices from people on the street below, and the hum of traffic.
"Why did you take it?" a voice whispered in the darkness, startling me awake.
I sat up quickly, scanning the room, "Who's there?"
The shadows seemed to shift, and then a figure emerged, "You weren't supposed to find it yet."
I clutch my bedsheets tighter as the figure steps into the dim light from my window.
He's tall, unnaturally pale, and he's wearing an expensive black suit that seems out of place at this hour.
His movements are fluid, predatory.
When he smirks, I catch a glimpse of sharp canines.
"Well, well," he drawls, circling my bed like a shark.
"Someone's been picking up things that don't belong to her."
I reach for my phone on the nightstand, but he's there in an instant, his cold fingers wrapping around my wrist.
"Let's have a little chat about fate," he murmurs, his eyes gleaming with an unsettling intensity.
I pull back against his grip, but he only tightens his cold fingers, sending shivers up my arm.
The vampire leans closer, his face inches from mine as he inhales deeply.
"Your scent is... different now that you've touched it," he murmurs, his dark eyes fixed on the crystal glinting on my nightstand.
I follow his gaze, noticing how the quartz seems to pulse with a faint inner light.
When I try to twist away again, he releases my wrist suddenly and steps back, straightening his suit jacket.
His movements are too fluid, too precise as he circles my bed like a predator.
The vampire circles my bed with calculated steps, his eyes never leaving mine.
When he passes the window, moonlight catches his pale features, making him look almost ethereal.
But there's an ancient hunger in his expression that belies any illusion of humanity.
The crystal on my nightstand seems to pulse with a soft blue glow, matching the erratic rhythm of my heartbeat.
As he reaches for it, I lunge forward and snatch it first, my fingers wrapping around its cool surface.
The crystal's light intensifies at my touch, sending waves of tingling energy up my arm.
The vampire freezes mid-step, his confident smirk faltering as I clutch the crystal to my chest.
Drawing strength from the crystal's warmth against my chest, I slowly rise from the bed, keeping my eyes locked on the vampire.
The pulsing blue light grows stronger, casting eerie shadows across my bedroom walls.
The vampire takes another step back, his confident smirk replaced by a look of uncertainty.
My fingers tingle where they touch the crystal, and an unfamiliar surge of power courses through my arms.
The sensation emboldens me to stand fully upright, and I extend my arms, holding the crystal at eye level.
Its light intensifies, forcing the vampire to shield his eyes with his hand.
"Why does it react to you like that?" he demands, his voice laced with frustration.
"I don't know," I reply, surprised by the steadiness in my own voice, "but it seems you didn't expect this either."
He lowers his hand slowly, a flicker of fear crossing his features.
