Angel/us
I was walking down the street when I smelled something familiar yet different.
It was a mix of citrus and earthy tones.
I knew that smell; it was the scent of my mate.
My mate was the only one that could make me feel this way even after all these years.
I felt alive again.
I followed her scent until I came across a dingy bar.
She was in there.
I could feel her close now.
I walked into the bar, and she was sitting in the corner.
She looked up, and our eyes met for the first time in years.
She looked different, but it was her.
She smiled and waved at me before standing up and coming towards me.
As she got closer, I realized that she wasn't just my mate but also a vampire.
I didn't know what to do or say.
I didn't want to scare her or make her angry.
She stopped in front of me and looked at me.
She seemed to be studying my face.
"Angel?" she said, sounding unsure.
"It's you," I said, still not believing it.
"What are you doing here?"
"I could ask you the same thing," she replied, looking around at the bar.
"I just came here from abroad. What about you?"
"I live here now," I said, not wanting to tell her about my life as Angelus.
"I thought you hated me," I told her, still not understanding what was happening.
"Why would you hate me?"

She looked at me like I was crazy.
"I thought you hated me," she said.
"I never stopped loving you, Buffy," I said, the words slipping out before I could stop them.
She smiled and leaned into me, wrapping her arms around my waist.
I wrapped my arms around her shoulders and held her close.
It felt like home.
I had missed her so much over the years.
I didn't know how to bridge the gap between us now.
I didn't know where to start.
I looked into her eyes and saw the same girl I had fallen in love with all those years ago.
She was still there, but she was different now too.
She was a vampire.

I didn't know what that meant for us or how it would change things between us.
"Why didn't you come find me?" she asked softly, pulling back just enough to meet my gaze.
"I thought you were better off without me," I admitted, the weight of my words hanging heavily between us.
"But Angel, I was lost without you," she whispered, her eyes glistening with unshed tears.
