I stared at the letter in my hands, and my heart was beating so fast.
I felt like I was in a dream, like I was floating on air.
The letter was from him!
I read it again and again, trying to memorize each word.
"I want you, I need you, Emily. I must kiss you," he wrote.
"I want to hold you in my arms and never let you go. Meet me tomorrow after dinner at the old oak tree in the park. Come alone."
I felt like I was going to faint.
He wanted me!
I had been dreaming of this moment for so long, and now it was finally here.
I had been yearning for Julian to notice me for what felt like forever.
I had been giving him signals, dropping hints, but he never seemed to notice.
Now, it seemed, he did.
I read the letter over and over, trying to decipher every word, every phrase.
I felt like I was walking on air, like I was living in a dream.
And tomorrow, I would see him.
I couldn't wait.
I felt so hopeful, yet at the same time terrified.
What if my parents found out?
They would never approve of this.
I was too young, and besides, they didn't like Julian.
But I didn't care.
I was desperate for him.
I had been heartbroken before, but this was different.
This was the real deal.
The Vampire Prince
I paced back and forth in my bedroom, trying to figure out how I was going to get Julian into the house without my parents noticing.
I looked out the window and saw Father heading to the fields and Mother getting ready to go to the market.
I knew that if I could just get him into the house, we could be alone together.
I took a piece of paper and wrote a quick note.
"Meet me at my house instead," I scribbled.
"I'll leave the back door open."
I folded the paper carefully and slipped it into my pocket.
My hands were shaking as I walked down the stairs and out the back door.
I ran across the yard and through the garden, not stopping until I reached the village.
There was a messenger boy who usually delivered our letters, and I hoped he would be there.
The Vampire Prince
I found him sitting on a bench, playing with a ball of yarn.
"Please," I said, pressing a coin into his palm.
"Deliver this letter before sunset."
He looked at me curiously but nodded and took the letter from my hand. I ran all the way home, not stopping until I was back in my bedroom.
I closed the door behind me and leaned against it, trying to catch my breath.
The Vampire Prince
I knew that I had done something crazy, but I couldn't help myself.
I had to see him!
I started cleaning my room frantically, putting away all of my clothes and hiding anything embarrassing under my bed.
I didn't want Julian to see any of my personal things, not yet.
I paced back and forth in front of the front door, checking my reflection in the hallway mirror for what felt like the hundredth time.
The house was quiet without my parents, and I could hear every creak of the floorboards beneath my feet.
I smoothed down my dress and fidgeted with my hair, trying to calm my racing heart.
Finally, there was a knock at the door.
I froze, my breath catching in my throat.
My hands trembled as I reached for the doorknob and slowly opened the door.
There he was, standing on my porch with his windswept hair and intense eyes.
He looked even more handsome than I remembered, and I couldn't help but stare.
For a moment, we just stood there, looking at each other.
I couldn't find any words to say, so I simply gestured for him to come inside.
The Vampire Prince
The floorboards creaked under our feet as we walked through the dimly lit hallway. The house seemed eerily quiet, and I felt like we were walking through a ghost town.
I led him past the kitchen and living room, towards the back of the house where the nursery was located.
"Emily, are you sure about this?" Julian asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
"I am," I replied, trying to sound more confident than I felt.
"But what if your parents come back early?" he pressed, glancing nervously towards the front door.
