I was 12 when I found out that vampires were real.
My sister Victoria was 14 and my parents and I won a once in a lifetime holiday on a cruise ship.
The first day was fine, we had a look around and went to the welcome party.
The second day was when things started to go wrong, Victoria and I went to get some food from the kitchen but we weren't allowed in because of health and safety.
One of the waiters said we could look at where the food was being prepared but we had to go down to the bottom deck where no one lives.
We walked down the stairs and started to walk down a long corridor, the walls were covered in old pictures of the ship when it was first built.
We walked down a few more corridors until we came across a door that said staff only, we knew it must be the door to the kitchen.
Victoria tried the handle and to our surprise the door opened.
We walked down a few more corridors until we came across a door that said kitchen, we tried the handle and it opened.
We started to walk towards where we could smell the food being cooked but before we could take a step further something caught my eye.
I grabbed Victoria's arm and pulled her back into the shadows behind a door that was hidden in the wall.

I held my breath and waited, the only sound was Victoria's breathing.
I looked down the corridor and saw a pair of shoes walking towards us.
The corridor was dimly lit and the only light was coming from a few bulbs that were hanging from the ceiling, they cast long shadows on the walls.
The man's footsteps got closer and closer until he was right in front of us.
He was wearing a black suit and had a white shirt underneath.
He had pale skin and his eyes were black as coal.
He stopped right in front of us and sniffed the air like a predator smelling its prey.
I held my breath and signaled to Victoria to stay still, hoping that our hiding spot would work.
The man turned around and started to walk away, his footsteps getting fainter with each step.
We let out a sigh of relief and looked at each other.
"What was that about?" Victoria whispered, her eyes wide with fear.
"I think he might be one of them," I replied, trying to keep my voice steady.
"One of what?" she pressed, her voice barely audible.

"One of the vampires," I whispered back, my heart pounding in my chest.
We stood there for a few seconds, trying to catch our breath.
The corridor was dimly lit, and the only sound was the hum of the ship's engine.
We knew we had to get out of there before the man came back.
We slowly crept out from behind the door and started to make our way back to the stairs.
We walked down the corridor, keeping close to the wall and staying in the shadows.
We stopped at every corner, listening for any sign of footsteps.
The ship was eerily quiet, and it felt like we were being watched by unseen eyes.
As we neared the grand staircase, we could feel the captain's presence looming over us.
His quarters were just beyond the top of the stairs, and we knew that if we were caught, he would be able to hear us. We paused at the bottom of the stairs, looking up at the grand staircase that stretched up into darkness.
The captain's quarters were on the next deck up, and we knew that if we were caught, he would be able to hear us.
I glanced at Victoria, her face set with determination despite the fear that shone in her eyes.

We nodded silently to each other and started up the stairs, our footsteps echoing off the walls.
Each step was deliberate and cautious, as if one wrong move could give us away.
As we neared the top of the stairs, a shadow moved ahead of us.
The Vampire Cruise
We pressed ourselves against the wall, holding our breath as the shadow elongated and took shape.
A crew member emerged from the darkness, his sinister grin spreading across his face.
Victoria and I exchanged a quick glance, knowing we had to act fast.
I grabbed her hand, pulling her into a nearby storage room before the crew member could turn around.
The door creaked as we slipped inside, and we crouched behind a stack of crates, listening intently.
Footsteps echoed outside the door, growing louder with each passing second.
The crew member paused outside, sniffing the air like a bloodhound.
My heart thudded in my chest, but I remained silent, holding my breath.
After what felt like an eternity, the footsteps retreated, fading into the distance.
We exhaled quietly, knowing we had narrowly escaped detection.
But we couldn't stay hidden forever.
We had to find a way off this ship before nightfall.
The Vampire Cruise
As the footsteps faded, I noticed a faint draft coming from behind the crates.
I nudged Victoria and pointed to the slight gap between two large boxes.
She nodded, and we carefully shifted them aside, revealing a narrow passageway hidden in the shadows.
The air was cooler here, carrying an unsettling scent of dampness and decay.
I hesitated for a moment, glancing at Victoria, who nodded with determination.
We squeezed through the opening, our footsteps echoing softly in the confined space.
The passage twisted and turned, leading us deeper into the underbelly of the ship.
