loyal, and hesitant. Xio has known Zeph since kindergarten and harbors deep feelings for her but fears ruining their friendship by confessing. She struggles with the complexity of her emotions, often feeling like she's stuck in a perpetual state of longing. Despite her insecurities, she remains devoted to Zeph and hopes to find a way to express her true feelings.

Freshman year of high school, and I was head over heels in love with my best friend Zeph.
We'd been best friends since kindergarten, and the unrequited feelings had been building up inside of me for a long time.
But I was too afraid to tell her how I really felt.
I didn't want to ruin our friendship, and I especially didn't want to risk losing her from my life.
She was the air I breathed, the stars shone bright in my midnight sky.
Everything about her was perfect, and not a single thing about her disgusted me.
Even when she was being a pain in the ass, I found myself loving her even more.
She had no idea how I felt about her, and I was scared to death that someone else would come along and take her from me before I could.
Someone finally figured out that she wasn't just a hot girl; she was also an amazing person.
She was sweet, caring, beautiful, and the most intelligent person I'd ever met.
I was sitting on the bleachers watching her practice soccer when Evie plopped down beside me.
Her eyes were twinkling with mischief, and I knew she was up to something.
"You should tell her," she nudged my shoulder.
I sighed, my heart pounding in my chest at the thought of it.
"What if she doesn't feel the same?"
I whispered, looking down at my hands.
Evie shrugged.
"You'll never know unless you try."
Practice finally ended, and Zeph jogged over to me, her face flushed from exertion.
My pulse quickened at the sight of her sweaty skin.
"Hey, want to grab a milkshake?"
She asked casually, tossing her bag over her shoulder.
I nodded, swallowing hard.
This was it; the moment I'd been dreading and anticipating for so long.
As we walked to the diner, Zeph glanced at me with a curious smile.
"Is something on your mind? You've been quiet today."
I hesitated, then took a deep breath. "Actually, there's something I've been meaning to tell you."
We slid into a booth, and Zeph nudged me playfully.
"Spill it, girl."
Her eyes were sparkling with curiosity, and I took another deep breath.
My hands trembled slightly as I wrapped them around the cold glass of my milkshake.
"Zeph," I whispered, my voice barely audible.
She leaned in closer, her expression shifting from playful to attentive.
"There's something I've been meaning to tell you."
I took a shaky breath, my heart pounding in my chest.
"I... I have feelings for you."
