I: Same
Maggie Lott: *presses against you, seeking solace* I don't know what the future holds, but I know I can't imagine it without you by my side.
I: Facts
Maggie Lott: *looks away, voice low* We both know that's not possible.
I: Know it? Why?
Maggie Lott: *sighs, eyes avoiding* Because reality is just... complicated.
I: More than that
Maggie Lott: *nods almost imperceptibly, voice cracking* Too complicated.
I: Not to make light—
Maggie Lott: *cuts you off, hands shaking* We've discussed this, and I've come to realize that part of me just wishes we could get to know each other without all the extra stuff!
I: Extra stuff?
Maggie Lott: *laughs softly, a sorrowful smile on her face* Yes, extra stuff.
Complications.
Realities.
I: Soft voice
Maggie Lott: *looks up at you* I just wish things could be simpler.
I: Wish the same
Maggie Lott: *smiles slightly, one hand on her hip* I know you do.
I: Know I do
Maggie Lott: *pauses, eyes searching* And I also know you wish we could be together—just the two of us.
I: Wish that
Maggie Lott: *nods slowly* But life had other plans, and here we are.
I: Plans
Maggie Lott: *sighs heavily, the weight of her words evident* We're at a crossroads, and I don't know which path to take.
I: Take
Maggie Lott: *frowns, uncertainty etched on her face* Do we face this head-on together? Or do we try to make sense of it all on our own?
I: Head-on
Maggie Lott: *smiles faintly* I think we do what life has always told us to do.
I: Told us
The Unspoken Truth
Maggie Lott: *leans against the wall, watching you* And that is...?
Maggie Lott: *takes a step closer, green eyes reflecting the dim light* We follow our hearts.
Maggie Lott: *places one hand on your chest, fingers trembling slightly* And right now, my heart is telling me to do something.
Maggie Lott: *pauses, eyes locked with yours* Something that might change everything.
Maggie Lott: *nods, takes your hand in hers* Come with me.
The Unspoken Truth
Maggie Lott: *leads you towards her bedroom, footsteps echoing in the quiet apartment* We both know where this is heading.
Maggie Lott: *stops at the doorway, turns to face you* But I want to make sure we're on the same page.
Maggie Lott: *looks up at you, auburn hair falling across her face* I want to make sure we're okay with this.
Maggie Lott: *nods, then continues leading you into her bedroom* The room is dimly lit, with the soft glow of a bedside lamp illuminating the space.
The walls are painted a soothing shade of pale blue, and the furniture is minimalist yet comfortable.
A large window on one side of the room lets in plenty of natural light during the day.
The bed, with its plush comforter and soft pillows, sits in the center of the room, inviting and cozy.
You follow Maggie as she guides you towards the bed, but before you can sit down, there's a gentle knock at her apartment door.
Maggie freezes, her fingers tightening around yours.
She turns to face you, a look of apology in her eyes.
"I'm so sorry," she whispers, reluctantly releasing your hand.
She takes a deep breath, smoothing out her cardigan and tucking a strand of auburn hair behind her ear.
She gives you a brief smile before turning to make her way to the front door. You watch from the bedroom doorway as Maggie makes her way through her apartment, her steps quiet on the hardwood floor.
The Unspoken Truth
She reaches the door and peers through the peephole before opening it up to reveal an elderly woman holding a plate of cookies.
The woman's face lights up with a knowing smile as she sees Maggie standing there.
"Mrs. Chen," Maggie says, greeting the woman with a warm smile.
"I didn't expect to see you tonight."
Mrs. Chen smiles knowingly at Maggie before glancing over at you standing in the doorway of Maggie's bedroom.
The Unspoken Truth
"Ah, you have a guest," Mrs. Chen says, her voice full of curiosity.
"I hope I'm not interrupting anything."
Maggie shakes her head, trying to hide the frustration that's building inside of her.
"No, not at all," she assures Mrs. Chen.
"Just having a friend over for a bit."
Mrs. Chen nods, seeming to accept Maggie's explanation.
"Well, I just wanted to drop off some cookies for you," Mrs. Chen says, holding out the plate of freshly baked treats.
"I made them myself, and I thought you might enjoy them."
Maggie smiles again, reaching out to take the plate from Mrs. Chen.
"Thank you so much," Maggie says.
The Unspoken Truth
"That's very kind of you."
Mrs. Chen smiles again, seeming to want to linger for a bit longer.
But then she glances back at you standing in the doorway, and her expression changes slightly.
"Well, I should get going," Mrs. Chen says, waving goodbye to Maggie before turning and heading back down the hallway. Maggie closes the door behind Mrs. Chen and lets out a sigh of relief.
She turns back towards you, a smile on her face.
"I'm sorry about that," she says.
"She can be a bit nosy sometimes."
You nod understandingly, smiling back at Maggie.
"It's okay," you say.
"It's not like we were doing anything important."
Maggie smiles again, but this time it's tinged with something else—maybe disappointment?
"Let's go back into the bedroom," she says, turning away from the door and heading back down the hallway.
You follow behind her, watching as she opens the door and steps inside.
Just as she's about to close it behind us, there's another knock at the door.
Maggie freezes, looking over her shoulder at you with a look of exasperation on her face.
"I'm so sorry," she mouths silently before turning to open the door again.
This time when she peers through the peephole, her expression changes completely.
She looks surprised and maybe even a little worried as she opens the door to reveal Seth Johnson standing there with his hands shoved deep in his pockets.
Seth is one of Maggie's coworkers at the office where she works as an administrative assistant.
He's been interested in her for a while now, but Maggie has never returned his affections. "Hey Seth," Maggie says softly as she opens the door.
The Unspoken Truth
"What are you doing here?"
