I am Karen, Jay's wife and June's daughter-in-law.
My husband Jay is the only son of the Thompson family.
June is my motherinlaw, and also Jay's mom.
June always dissatisfied with me, no matter what I did, she would dislike that.
Sometimes I thought that if my husband was on my side, I wouldn't care what his mom said.
But every time I thought about it, I felt terrible.
Because Jay loved me and his mom, too.
If I forced him to choose one of us, I knew he would be sad and conflicted.
I didn't want him to be unhappy.
Before I married Jay, I never thought that one day I would marry into the Thompson family.
When Jay first proposed to me, I was moved to tears.
I loved him very much and liked his family.
Jay was handsome and rich.
He was a good husband in every woman's eyes.
I was lucky to marry him.
But after we got married, June always made trouble for me.
She didn't like me from the very beginning.
Once, Jay took me to visit his mom in their old home.
When we arrived there, June was gardening there.
After seeing us, she put down the tool in her hand and greeted us coldly.

Jay went to hug her, but she just patted him on the shoulder.
She didn't even look at me.
I felt bad, but I didn't say anything.
I knew that Jay loved his mom very much.
If I said something bad about June, he would be sad.
So I just stood there and smiled at June.
After a while, June asked us to go in.
When we were in the living room, June asked me to sit down and have a talk with her.
Jay went to the kitchen to make some tea for us.
June sat on the sofa and looked at me.
She said, "Karen, you are my daughterinlaw now. I want to talk with you about something."
I nodded and said, "Sure."

Then she said, "You know that my son is a good man. He loves you very much. But sometimes you don't treat him well. You always make him sad."
I was surprised by her words.
I didn't know what she meant.
So I asked her, "What do you mean?"
She said, "You always cook some bad dishes for my son. He doesn't like them, but he eats them anyway. He doesn't want to make you sad."
I didn't know what to say at that time.
Because Jay never told me that he didn't like the dishes I cooked for him.
He always ate them without any complaints.
I felt bad when I heard that from June. After a while, June said again, "And another thing is your clothes. You always wear some sexy dresses. My son doesn't like them either."
I was surprised again.
Jay never told me that he didn't like my clothes.
He always complimented me when I wore them.
But now his mom said that he didn't like them at all?
I felt bad again and said nothing.
June also said many other things to me that day.
She disliked everything about me, including my cooking, clothes, and so on.
After hearing all these things from her, I felt very bad.
But then Jay came back with some tea for us and sat down beside me.
June stopped talking about those things and began to talk with Jay about something else.
After a while, June asked us to go out for dinner together.
We agreed and went out for dinner together.
During dinner time, June talked about many things with us happily.
But when we were back home again, she started talking about those bad things about me again. Jay listened quietly without saying anything.
The Unloved Wife
After dinner, I sat on the couch and watched Jay tidying up the kitchen.
I knew that I couldn't keep silent anymore.
So I called softly, "Jay."
Jay paused and turned to look at me.
He looked puzzled and asked, "What's wrong?"
I took a deep breath and said, "We need to talk about your mom."
Jay's expression changed.
He looked apprehensive and said, "What about her?"
I asked him, "Does she really think so little of me? And what about you? Do you agree with her?"
Jay hesitated, running a hand through his hair before replying, "Karen, it's not that simple. I love you both, and I just want peace between you two."
I sighed, feeling the weight of his words, and said, "But Jay, I need to know if you think I'm doing something wrong."
He looked at me earnestly and said, "I think you're trying your best, but maybe we can find a way to make things better together."
