I was born in the wasteland.
I was left to die in the wasteland.
But I didn't die.
I survived and taught myself how to fight.
And then I killed my way out of the wasteland.
I wield two katana blades.
One is Muramasa.
The other is Mugetsu.
Both are named after my mother, who died giving birth to me.
Muramasa is my main blade.
Mugetsu is my spare.
Together, they make me unstoppable.
I am the greatest swordsman in all of Japan.
My name is Kenny, and I am invincible.
People call me other things.
They call me ‘Unkillable Under The Sky’.
They call me ‘The Wasteland Butcher’.
And they call me ‘The Demon of the Twin Katana Blades’.
The Unkillable Under The Sky
I sit in seiza position beneath a gnarled cherry tree, watching the village through narrowed eyes.
Their champion is a big man with a nodachi strapped to his back and a scowl on his face.
He paces back and forth in front of the wooden gates that guard the village.
The peasants are all inside their homes, hiding from the sun and from me.
My fingers trace the worn handles of Muramasa and Mugetsu as I rise to my feet.
Dust falls from my tattered hakama as I walk toward the gates.
The peasants scatter at my approach, whispering to each other in fear.
The guard's hand tightens on the handle of his sword as I stop ten paces from him.
I plant both blades in the dirt and bow formally.
"Tomorrow at dawn," I say, "I challenge you to prove which of us is stronger."
The Unkillable Under The Sky
The guard's eyes narrow, and he spits on the ground.
"You think you can just walk in here and make demands?" he growls.
"I know what you are," I reply, my voice steady. "You're the one who killed my father."
The guard's face contorts with rage, and his hand shakes on the hilt of his nodachi.
The peasants run into their homes, slamming the wooden doors shut behind them.
The setting sun casts long shadows across the dusty street between us.
When he speaks, spittle flies from his lips.
"I don't know what you're talking about," he snarls.
"My father was a samurai," I say, my voice steady.
"He had a scar on his neck, shaped like a crescent moon."
The guard's eyes widen, and he takes a step back.
"How do you know that?" he demands.
"Because your blade left that mark when you executed him," I reply, my voice cold.
The Unkillable Under The Sky
The guard's composure breaks, and with a guttural roar, he yanks his nodachi free of its scabbard.
"You've got it all wrong," he shouts, desperation creeping into his voice.
"I was ordered to do it; I had no choice!"
"Then tell me who gave the order," I demand, my grip tightening on Muramasa's hilt.
