When I woke up, everything was unfamiliar, from the ceiling to the windows, even the bed I lay on.
I jumped out and saw myself in the mirror.
I still looked the same as I remembered; nothing had changed.
"Where am I?" I asked myself.
However, soon I realized that I couldn’t answer that question.
"Where am I?" I repeated in English, but again, I got no answer.
I soon realized that my mind was completely blank, as if someone had erased all my memories.
I looked around and found clothes in the closet.
Downstairs, everything was neat and tidy.
There were even cookies on the table.
A piece of paper next to the cookies caught my attention.
It had several characters written on it: "Hello, Mom."
Mom?Does that mean I’m a mom?
If so, then where’s my son?
I soon realized that I must have a son because I called him when I came here.
However, I had no idea what he looked like or where he studied abroad.
America?
Yes, that’s right!
I still remember that I came to America from China to visit my son at his college!
But halfway there, something happened, erasing all my memories!
My son must be worried about me!
I wanted to call him, but where was his phone number?
The Unforgettable Love
I stepped outside and saw the sun was setting, casting long shadows on the street.
The houses were all unfamiliar, but my feet moved as if they knew where to go.
I walked for a while and found myself at an intersection.
The streets were all lined with houses, each one a mystery.
I turned right and continued walking.
After a few minutes, I came to a park.
Maybe I could find someone here who could help me?
I walked in and saw children playing on swings.
Their laughter filled the air.
A young man sat on a bench, reading a book.
He looked up as I approached, his eyes meeting mine with curiosity and warmth.
"Excuse me," I said, my voice trembling slightly.
The Unforgettable Love
"Can you help me? I’ve lost my memory."
He closed his book and nodded, a knowing smile spreading across his face.
The Unforgettable Love
"I’m Jason," he said, his voice calm and reassuring.
"My name is Ling Li," I replied, my voice steady now.
"It’s nice to meet you, Ling Li."
He stood up and gestured for me to sit with him.
"Let’s talk about what happened. Do you remember anything?"
I shook my head, feeling a mix of confusion and fear.
"No, nothing. I just woke up in a house and found a note that said ‘Hello, Mom.’"
Jason nodded thoughtfully.
"That must be really scary," he said.
"But don’t worry, we can figure this out together. Do you want to go get some coffee and talk more?"
I hesitated for a moment, unsure if I should trust this stranger.
But something about him felt kind and genuine.
The Unforgettable Love
"Yes, that sounds nice," I said finally.
Jason smiled and stood up, offering me his arm.
"Let’s go," he said.
We walked out of the park and down the street, the autumn leaves crunching beneath our feet.
The air was cool and crisp, filled with the scent of fallen leaves.
As we walked, Jason asked me gentle questions about what I remembered.
I told him about the house and the note on the table.
He listened intently, his eyes filled with concern. After a few minutes, we came to a small café on the corner.
Jason opened the door and gestured for me to go inside.
The café was cozy and warm, with soft music playing in the background.
We sat down at a table by the window, and Jason ordered us each a cup of coffee.
As we waited for our drinks to arrive, Jason asked me more questions about my past.
I tried to remember anything that might help us figure out what had happened to me, but my mind was still a complete blank.
The coffee arrived, and we sipped it slowly as we continued talking.
Jason asked me about my life in China before coming to America, but I couldn’t remember anything except for my son’s college in America.
Jason nodded thoughtfully as I spoke, his eyes filled with understanding.
When I finished talking, he reached across the table and gently touched my hand. "Don’t worry," he said softly.
"We’ll figure this out together. We’ll start by finding your son."
I felt a surge of gratitude towards this young man who had taken it upon himself to help me in my time of need.
"Thank you," I said sincerely.
"I really appreciate your help."
Jason smiled warmly at me.
The Unforgettable Love
Jason smiled and stood up, holding out his hand to help me up.
"Let’s get started then," he said, his eyes shining with determination.
We stepped out of the café, the sun still high in the sky.
The air was warm and filled with the scent of blooming flowers.
As we walked, Jason suggested that we start by looking for my son at nearby universities.
He explained that it was likely that my son was studying at one of them, and that we could ask around to see if anyone recognized me.
I nodded, feeling a sense of hope rising inside me.
We continued walking, Jason pointing out different landmarks and explaining what they were.
I listened intently, trying to absorb as much information as possible.
As we walked, I began to notice that the houses were becoming more spread out, and the streets were becoming less crowded.
We soon found ourselves in a quiet neighborhood filled with tall trees and beautiful houses.
Jason pointed out a university campus on our left, and we decided to go inside and ask around. We walked up to the information desk and showed the note with "Hello, Mom" scrawled on it to the person behind the counter.
The Unforgettable Love
She looked at it carefully before shaking her head and saying she didn’t recognize me.
We thanked her and left, deciding to try another campus.
After a few hours of walking and asking around, we were both feeling tired and hungry.
The sun was also starting to set, casting a golden glow over the streets.
Jason suggested that we find somewhere to rest for the night before continuing our search in the morning.
We found a small inn nearby and decided to check in for the night.
As we sat down in the cozy lobby, Jason turned to me with a thoughtful expression.
"Do you think there's anyone else who might recognize you? Maybe a friend or relative?"
The Unforgettable Love
I thought for a moment before shaking my head.
"I don't remember anyone except my son," I said softly.
Jason nodded, his eyes filled with understanding.
"Okay, well, we'll keep looking for him then," he said gently.
He stood up and suggested that we go to our room to rest for a while before dinner.
I agreed, feeling grateful for his kindness and support.
As we walked up the stairs, I couldn't help but feel a sense of relief wash over me.
It was nice to have someone by my side as I navigated this unfamiliar place.
The room was small but cozy, with two beds and a window that looked out onto the street.
Jason suggested that we take turns showering and then meet back down in the lobby for dinner. I nodded, feeling grateful for his thoughtfulness.
As I showered and changed into some clean clothes, I couldn't help but think about how lucky I was to have met Jason.
He had been so kind and helpful, and I felt like I could trust him completely.
The Unforgettable Love
After dinner, we decided to go back to the room and rest for the night.
As we settled in, Jason suggested that we go through any belongings you had to see if there were any clues about your identity.
I nodded, feeling a sense of hope rising inside me.
We emptied my bag onto the bed and began going through each item carefully.
There were some clothes, a few books, and a small photo album.
As we looked through it, one photo slipped out and fell to the floor.
Jason picked it up and examined it closely. It was a picture of a younger version of me standing next to a teenage boy.
Jason's expression softened as he looked at it, his eyes filled with concern.
"This must be your son," he said gently, handing me the photo.
I took it from him, feeling a surge of emotion rise up inside me.
My fingers brushed against Jason's as he handed me the photo, sending a shiver down my spine.
He smiled softly as he sat down beside me on the bed, his eyes never leaving mine.
"There's something familiar about this photo," Jason said, his voice tinged with curiosity.
I studied the picture, trying to grasp any fleeting memory. "I think... I think his name is Daniel," I whispered, my heart pounding with a mix of fear and hope.
Jason's eyes widened slightly. "That's a start," he said, his voice filled with encouragement.
The Unforgettable Love
He took the photograph from me and examined it more closely.
After a moment, he flipped it over, revealing a faintly scribbled phone number on the back.
"Maybe this is a clue," he said, his voice filled with determination.
"We should call it."
I nodded, feeling a mix of anticipation and anxiety.
Jason picked up his phone and dialed the number, his eyes never leaving mine.
As he waited for someone to answer, I could feel my heart pounding in my chest.
Finally, a voice picked up on the other end of the line.
Jason's voice was steady as he spoke into the phone.
"Hello? Is this Daniel?"
There was a pause, and then Jason's eyes lit up with excitement.
"Yes, I'm trying to reach Daniel. Do you know him?"
The Unforgettable Love
He listened for a moment before nodding. "Okay, thank you. I'll meet you at the park tomorrow at 10 am."
He hung up the phone and turned to me with a smile.
"That was one of Daniel's friends. He knows where he is and is willing to help us get in touch with him."
I felt a surge of hope rise up inside me, mixed with a sense of relief.
"Thank you," I said softly, my voice filled with emotion.
Jason smiled gently as he reached out and took my hand in his.
"Don't worry," he said softly.
"We'll figure this out together."
The next day, Jason and I met Daniel's friend at the park.
He was a tall, lanky young man with a kind smile.
As we sat down on a bench together, Jason explained our situation and asked if he knew anything about what had happened to me. The young man listened intently, his eyes filled with concern.
When Jason finished speaking, he nodded thoughtfully.
"I can't say for sure what happened," he said slowly.
"But I do know that Daniel has been acting strange lately. He's been getting mysterious phone calls and disappearing for hours at a time."
Jason's eyes widened slightly as he leaned forward in his seat.
"Do you think there's any connection between that and what happened to Ling Li?"
The young man shrugged uncertainly.
"I'm not sure," he said softly.
"But I do know that Daniel is in trouble. He's been acting really stressed out lately."
I felt a surge of fear rise up inside me as I listened to their conversation.
What had happened to my son?
And why did it seem like he was involved in something dangerous?
The Unforgettable Love
The next morning, Jason and I sat in the inn's small dining area, sipping coffee as we waited for Daniel to call.
The air was filled with the sweet scent of freshly baked pastries, and the sound of soft music floated through the room.
As we sat there, I couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation building inside me.
I knew that this call could be the key to finally finding my son, and I was both excited and nervous about what might happen.
Finally, the phone rang, and Jason answered it with a steady voice.
He listened for a moment before nodding and handing the phone to me.
"Hello?" he said softly.
"It's Daniel."
I took the phone from him, feeling a surge of emotion rise up inside me.
"Daniel?" he asked, his voice trembling slightly.
"It's me. Mom."
There was a pause on the other end of the line, and for a moment I thought he had hung up.
The Unforgettable Love
But then I heard his voice again, filled with regret. "Mom... I'm so sorry," he said softly.
"I never meant for any of this to happen."
I felt a lump form in my throat as I listened to his words.
"What do you mean?"
I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.
"I'll explain everything when we meet," he said quickly.
"But please... just come alone."
I hesitated for a moment before nodding, even though he couldn't see me.
"Okay," I whispered softly.
"We'll meet at that café downtown at 2 pm."
I hung up the phone and turned to Jason with a determined look on my face.
"Let's go," I said firmly.
Jason nodded, his eyes filled with understanding as he stood up from his chair.
We walked out of the inn together, feeling a mix of anticipation and fear rising inside me.
As we made our way through the crowded streets, I couldn't help but think about what might happen when we finally found Daniel. After a few minutes of walking, we arrived at the café and decided to sit down at a table near the window.
The sun was shining brightly outside, casting a warm glow over everything around us.
As we sat there sipping our drinks, I couldn't help but feel a sense of nervousness wash over me.
What would Daniel tell us?
And why did he want us to come alone?
I glanced over at Jason, feeling grateful for his presence beside me.
He smiled softly as he reached out and took my hand in his.
The Unforgettable Love
The minutes ticked by slowly as we sat there, feeling like an eternity.
Jason's hand enveloped mine, providing a sense of stability in the midst of all the uncertainty.
Every time the door swung open, my eyes darted towards it, expecting to see Daniel's familiar face walking through.
The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air, mingling with the sound of chatter from the other patrons.
As we waited, Jason squeezed my hand gently, sending a surge of reassurance through me.
Finally, the phone rang again, its shrill tone cutting through the air.
I picked it up with trembling fingers, hearing Daniel's voice on the other end.
"Hello?" he said softly.
"I'm at the café. Where are you?"
I glanced over at Jason before answering.
"I'm here too," I said softly.
"But I'm not alone."
The Unforgettable Love
There was a pause on the other end of the line, and for a moment I thought he had hung up.
"Okay," he said finally.
