"Hey Theo, have you seen that new TV show, she's got balls or something like that?"
I asked my best mate Theo Nott over the phone.
He was in the room next to mine, and we were talking over the phone just to make sure we both were coming to ask Blaise the same question.
"Draco, why the hell are you talking to me over the phone when we're just next door?"
Theo questioned with a laugh.
"Because I'm at the desk, and my bed is a trampoline; that's why!"
I said with a smirk in my voice.
"You know... I'm starting to like this college life. I mean, we get to spend time together just like old times."
Theo said with a hint of happiness.
"Yeah, I know what you mean. Now come here so we can ask Blaise together?"
I asked, getting up from my bed.
I heard Theo opening his door and walking towards my room.
We both lived in the same building but had separate rooms because of our different requirements.
I had an autistic roommate, Lyra Black, who was struggling to get used to this new change.
She was doing fine till now but was very sensitive towards any kind of change.
So, having a separate room was kind of a necessity for her.
If I remember correctly, she used to freak out whenever someone would enter her room without knocking.
Coming back to the topic, Theo knocked on my door even though he knew it was empty.
Still, out of habit, he did so.
"Hey Draco, ready?"
The Unexpected Roommate
I swung open the door, and Theo froze mid-step.
Lyra was sitting on her bed, her phone propped up against her pillow.
The blue light of the screen was illuminating her face as she gestured animatedly to someone on FaceTime.
Theo knew that we had just interrupted a private moment, so he was about to back off when I raised my hand to stop him.
We both knew that sudden movements startled Lyra, so we had to be careful while entering or exiting the room.
Lyra looked at us and waved, continuing her conversation in hushed tones.
I guided Theo to my side of the room, keeping my movements slow and deliberate so as not to startle her.
"Draco, you might want to hear this," Lyra said, her voice barely above a whisper.
Theo and I exchanged a glance, curiosity piqued.
"It's about Blaise—he's planning something big for tonight," she continued, eyes flicking between us and the screen.
The Unexpected Roommate
I followed her gesture to a bright neon flyer on her wall, its edges curling slightly where the tape had loosened.
Through the phone screen, a girl with copper-colored hair was talking animatedly, though I couldn't quite make out the words.
Theo leaned against my desk, his attention divided between the mystery girl and the flyer advertising some kind of campus event.
Lyra held her phone closer to the wall, allowing the girl to see the flyer too.
"It's this Friday," Lyra said softly, tapping the date with her free hand.
Theo and I locked eyes, a silent agreement passing between us: whatever Blaise was planning, we were in.
The Unexpected Roommate
I leaned against my desk, watching Lyra chat with her friend on FaceTime.
She shifted on the bed, pulling her knees up to her chest while keeping the phone steady in her hand.
"Pyae, you should come too," Lyra said, her voice growing more confident with each passing moment.
The redhead on the screen nodded enthusiastically, a smile spreading across her face.
Theo shot me a questioning look—neither of us had heard of Pyae before—but I just shrugged, equally curious about this new development.
Lyra continued explaining the party details to Pyae, her fingers fidgeting with the edge of the blanket.
The neon flyer caught the light as she gestured toward it, still propped against her wall.
The room buzzed with anticipation, and as Lyra's voice filled the space, I knew this night would change everything.
The Unexpected Roommate
I pulled the flyer off Lyra's wall, squinting at the small text as Theo peered over my shoulder.
The party was at The Underground, a popular student club downtown.
Lyra finished her FaceTime call and hugged her knees to her chest, watching us intently.
"Is Blaise involved in this?"
I asked, curiosity getting the better of me.
"He's DJing," Lyra replied, her voice barely above a whisper.
Theo immediately grabbed his phone, typing away in our group chat.
"We should meet up at your room before heading there," he said, eyes fixed on the screen.
I nodded in agreement, noticing the hint of a smile on Lyra's lips.
The night was already writing itself into our lives, and none of us could turn the page back.
