I was totally shocked when I found out that I was pregnant.
I was in my second year of college and I had a onenight stand with this guy Michael Bennett.
After the onenight stand, I never saw him again until I gave birth to my baby.
When I found out that I was pregnant, I was so scared.
I didn't know what to do and I felt so alone.
I didn't tell my parents because I knew that they would be upset and disappointed in me.
Instead, I told my best friend Alexandra Martinez.
She has been my best friend since childhood.
She was always there for me and she was my confidante.
When I told her that I was pregnant, she was supportive and caring.
She offered me a place to stay with her if I needed it.
She told me that everything would be okay and that she would be there to support me every step of the way.
I was grateful for her kindness and generosity.

I paced nervously in Alex's living room, clutching my phone and rehearsing what I was going to say.
The pregnancy test results were sitting on the coffee table, a constant reminder of why I needed to make this call.
Alex squeezed my shoulder reassuringly and handed me a piece of paper with Michael's number on it.
She had managed to track it down through mutual friends.
I took a deep breath and dialed the number.
My hands were shaking as I held the phone to my ear.
It rang three times before he answered.
"Hello?"
I gripped the phone tightly, trying to force myself to speak.
"Michael? It's Jason. From the party last month. We need to talk. I'm pregnant."
The Unexpected Daddy
Silence hung heavy on the line as I waited for his response.
My hands were shaking so badly that I could hardly hold the phone.
I could hear Michael's stunned silence on the other end of the line, but he didn't say anything.
I took a deep breath and tried to continue.
"I know this is a shock, but we need to talk about what we're going to do. I'm pregnant and I don't know what to do."
Finally, Michael spoke up.
"Okay. Yeah. Sure. When do you want to meet?"
"How about tomorrow? At the Corner Cup café?"
I suggested.
The Corner Cup was just three blocks from Alex's apartment, so it was convenient for both of us.
"Sounds good. What time?"
The Unexpected Daddy
"How about 2 pm?"
I asked.
"See you then," Michael said, his voice still sounding a little stunned.
I ended the call and turned to Alex.
"He agreed to meet tomorrow at 2 pm at the Corner Cup café."
Alex nodded sympathetically and helped me sink into her worn leather couch.
My legs were feeling a little wobbly after that call and I wasn't sure how much longer I could stand.
I pressed my palm against my still-flat stomach, trying to wrap my head around the fact that I would be sitting across from Michael in less than twenty-four hours, explaining how our drunken hookup had resulted in this unexpected pregnancy. Alex brought me a steaming mug of chamomile tea and sat down next to me on the couch.
She started making lists of talking points for me to bring up with Michael, but I couldn't really focus on what she was saying.
My mind kept wandering back to the pregnancy test results sitting on the coffee table.
Two pink lines stared back at me, mocking me with their simplicity.
How could something so small have such a profound impact on my life?
Alex squeezed my hand reassuringly and handed me a piece of paper with her notes on it.
"Here's some stuff you might want to think about bringing up with Michael tomorrow," she said gently.
I nodded and took the paper from her, trying to focus on what she had written down.
