My name is Marrel, I'm 18 years old.
I grew up in the orphanage all my life; I don't know my parents.
I'm so happy I didn't get adopted because I don't want someone to come and tell me I'm not their daughter.
I don't want to lose someone I love or someone who claims to love me.
I have flawless skin, dark Brown eyes, and burnette long curly hair.
I'm actually a pretty girl.
"Marrel! Jace is looking for you," Mrs. Meriam called me.
A pretty middle-aged woman, although I'm not her child, she still treated me well.
She was happy that I didn't get adopted.
"Okay," I replied and went to meet Jace.
We met at a party; he actually sent me a drink which was meant for someone else, not knowing it was for another person.
I took the drink thinking it was given to me by a guy who was sending signals to me.
I don't know what he put in that drink, but when I took it I felt so different.
"I need to get out of here," I said to him since he was the only one left at the moment.
He took me to his hotel room.
Weirdly, we slept together that night.
The Unexpected Baby
I woke up the next morning to find myself in bed with him.
I didn't know what happened, but I knew something did.
I tried to sneak out, but he caught me.
He said we had sex, and I didn't remember.
I told him I was a virgin, and he felt so bad about it.
We started dating, and two months later I found out I was pregnant.
Now I'm in the hospital giving birth to my baby.
I'm lying on the hospital bed; my hands are gripping the rail of the bed as another contraction hits me.
Mrs. Meriam is sitting beside me, holding my hand while Jace paces by the window nervously.
The nurse comes in to check my dilation.
The Unexpected Baby
"Okay, you're eight centimeters dilated," she says before leaving.
Hours pass, and I'm still feeling the pain of the contractions.
The nurse teaches me how to breathe through them, but it doesn't work.
"Are you ready to push?"
The doctor comes in with his team of nurses.
"Yes," I reply. "Okay, on your next contraction, bear down and push," he says as he takes his position between my legs.
My next contraction hits, and I do as he said.
"Ahhhhhhh," I scream through clenched teeth as I push.
Mrs. Meriam wipes my forehead with a cool cloth as Jace holds my hand tightly.
"Good job," the doctor praises me after three pushes.
"Now one more push."
I do as he says again, screaming through clenched teeth.
After that push, I hear a cry - my baby's first cry.
The nurse places him on my chest; he's all pink and wrinkled up.
I count his fingers and toes before looking at his chubby cheeks and dark curls of hair on his head.
The Unexpected Baby
"He's got your eyes," Jace whispers, a mix of awe and relief in his voice.
I look up at him, tears blurring my vision, and say, "I never thought I'd see a part of me in someone else."
Mrs. Meriam squeezes my shoulder gently and adds, "And now you have a family of your own, Marrel."
The nurse takes him from me and cleans him up.
After a few minutes, she brings him back to me wrapped in a soft blue blanket.
I hold him in my trembling fingers, tracing his delicate features with my thumb.
Jace comes closer, peering at his son with wonder.
I try to position him for feeding, but I'm not sure how to do it.
Mrs. Meriam steps in and helps me adjust my arms so he can latch on.
I wince as he starts sucking; it's a strange feeling, but it's also kind of nice.
Tears slip down my cheeks as I stroke his dark curls.
The room falls quiet except for the sound of him nursing.
In that moment, I realized I was no longer alone.
