I am Jax Kimura, 23 years old and half Japanese half korean.
I am 20 weeks pregnant and waiting for my baby's first kick.
I am married to Luis Kimura, 24 years old and half Scottish half korean.
He doesn't work so he can take care of me.
But honestly, I am scared and nervous about the baby coming because I don't know if I can be a good father and take care of the little one.
Luis says he is but honestly, I don't really know if I can do it.
I am at 20 weeks and people say the baby kicks at this stage so I am waiting for him or her to kick me but nothing yet.
Maybe my husband got the kicks?
I don't know but I am getting anxious thinking about it.
Maybe my hormones are playing games with me.
"Hey babe," Luis greeted as he came into our bedroom.
I was lying on the bed watching cartoons.
Yeah, I know I am too old to be watching cartoons but I can't help it.
"Hey! How was your day?"
I asked him with a smile.
"It was good. How about you?"
He asked with a kiss on my forehead.
"I was good. Luis? Can you lay down with me for a bit? I am feeling really lonely."
I said with a pout.
"Of course babe. Let me get into some comfortable clothes."
He said with a smile.
"Okay! Thanks! I really appreciate it!"
The Unexpected Baby
He went to the closet and changed into sweatpants and a loose t-shirt.
Then he slid under the covers next to me.
The cartoon was still playing in the background.
He wrapped his arm around my waist and his hand rested on my swollen belly.
We lay there in comfortable silence for a while, Luis's breath on my neck.
Suddenly, Luis jerked away from me, his eyes wide with shock.
"What's wrong?"
I asked, propping myself up on my elbows.
He stared at my stomach, his face pale.
"I... I felt something move," he stammered, pointing at my belly with a trembling finger.
The Unexpected Baby
"Like a little flutter against my hand."
I placed my hand where his had been but I didn't feel anything.
"Are you sure?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady despite the sudden rush of excitement.
"Yeah, I'm sure," Luis replied, his voice filled with awe.
"Maybe our little one just wanted to say hi to their dad first," he added with a soft chuckle.
The Unexpected Baby
I nodded, my heart racing with excitement.
"Maybe. But I didn't feel anything," I said, my voice tinged with disappointment.
"Well, maybe they'll come to you next time," Luis said, smiling at me reassuringly.
"But it was really faint. Maybe you need to be still for a while."
I nodded, my mind racing with anticipation.
Maybe if I stayed still long enough, the baby would move again and I would finally get to feel that flutter.
So I spent the next hour lying in bed, hardly breathing, waiting for the baby to move again.
But there was nothing.
Just the sound of Luis's steady breathing and the occasional bird chirping outside our window.
Luis brought me a cup of chamomile tea and sat with me for a bit.
The Unexpected Baby
"Maybe we should just let you relax for a while," he said gently, his eyes filled with understanding.
"The baby will move when they're ready. You can't force it."
I nodded, feeling a wave of exhaustion wash over me.
Maybe Luis was right.
Maybe I needed to just relax and let the baby come to me in their own time. I shifted onto my side, feeling the weight of my belly against the mattress.
The ceiling fan spun lazily above us, casting a warm golden light over our room.
I closed my eyes, listening to Luis's soothing voice as he talked about his day.
As the minutes ticked by, my eyelids grew heavy and I drifted off into a light sleep.
It had been almost an hour since Luis felt that first movement and still nothing from my side.
I was about to give up and get up to make dinner when suddenly... there it was!
It was so faint that if I wasn't paying attention, I would have missed it entirely.
It was like a tiny bubble popping inside me or a butterfly's wing fluttering against my skin.
I grabbed Luis's arm tightly and he looked down at me with concern written across his face.
"Jax? What's wrong?"
"Here!"
I whispered urgently, pressing his hand against my stomach where I had felt it.
"Feel!"
He placed his palm flat on my belly and then...
There it was again!
This time stronger than before!
The Unexpected Baby
Like a little fist punching against his hand.
Luis's eyes widened with wonder, and a broad smile spread across his face.
"That's our baby," he said softly, his voice filled with amazement.
Tears welled up in my eyes as I nodded, overwhelmed by the reality of it all.
