I slammed the doors of the palace in Mount Olympus shut with a loud thud.
"Are you kidding me?!"
I yelled in frustration to no one in particular as I stormed down the corridor.
A figure emerged from one of the doors and a hand was placed on my arm to stop me in my tracks.
"What’s wrong, Hermes?"
It was my twin brother, Apollo.
I glared down at him.
"You! You and your games!"
"What games?"
He looked at me confused.
I harrumphed.
"You know very well what I’m talking about."
I started walking again, not wanting to have this conversation.
But Apollo kept pace with me and when we reached the doors leading outside, he barred my way.
"You’re not going anywhere until we settle this."
"Move out of my way."
"Or what?"
He smirked at me.
"You’re going to kill me?"
With lightning speed, I drew my sword from its sheath.
My brother didn’t flinch as he looked at the sword now pointing at his chest.
"I’m not going to hurt you, idiot," I snapped at him.
"Why draw it then?"
He crossed his arms over his chest, looking smugger by the second.
"To show you that I mean business."
"Fine," he said dryly.
"You’ve shown me. Now put it away before you hurt yourself."
I snorted and put the sword back in its sheath.
"I can take care of myself."
The Twin Gods' War
I lowered my arms, letting the tension drain from my shoulders.
Apollo followed me out onto the wide terrace that overlooked the clouds below.
The sound of our footsteps echoed off the cool marble walls of the palace as we stepped out into the afternoon sun.
The golden pillars lining the terrace gleamed in the sunlight and a warm breeze rustled through my hair.
I walked to the edge of the terrace and gripped the stone railing with both hands, looking down at the clouds below.
My knuckles turned white from the pressure.
Apollo leaned against a nearby pillar, watching me with that infuriating half-smile of his.
A distant rumble of thunder echoed through the air, but it was so far away that I could barely hear it.
I took a deep breath and let it out slowly, trying to calm myself down.
"You’re not going to talk about it?"

The Twin Gods' War
Apollo asked after a while.
"Talk about what?"
I snapped, still not looking at him. "What’s got you so riled up," he replied calmly.
Without answering, I took a deliberate step away from the railing and moved toward the garden path that led to the mortal world below.
I paused at the entrance to the garden, my hand resting on the intricately designed metal gate.
The scent of ambrosia flowers filled the air and Apollo’s footsteps crunched on the gravel behind me.
My fingers traced the delicate patterns etched into the metal while I gathered my thoughts.
Apollo waited patiently, an unusual trait for him, as I turned to face him.
The setting sun cast long shadows across his face, illuminating his sharp features and reminding me of our shared duties to the mortal world below.
The Twin Gods' War
I opened my mouth to speak, but hesitated.
A cool breeze rustled through the divine garden, carrying distant echoes of mortal prayers.
Finally, I gestured for Apollo to follow me and led him to a marble bench nestled among the lush foliage.
