My name is Jack, I am seventeen years old and I am a high school football player.
My home is a bustling household shared with my aunt, uncle, and my spirited cousins Jade
Well, to be honest, I have been living with them since I was ten years old.
I know it sounds weird, but I will explain later.
My aunt and uncle are also Jade's caregivers.
Jade doesn't know her parents because they died when she was only two years old just like me; however, hers died of cancer.
I lost my parents in a car crash six years ago.
It screwed with my mind for a couple of years, but now I am just fine.
Besides, my parents' death made me more responsible at a young age.
I took that as an example to be stronger every day.
So, I have been living with my aunt and uncle ever since then, and so did Jade after her parents' death.
Well, let's get to the story.
So, my Aunt Lisa and Uncle Mark are business people.
They travel most of the time to other cities or countries for work commitments.
I am sitting on Jade's bed, scrolling through my phone while she rummages through the shopping bags she brought back from the mall.
She pulls out a few dresses and lays them across her floral bedspread.
"Jack, I need your opinion," she says, holding up a blue sundress.
I try to act casual as she disappears into her ensuite bathroom to change.
When she emerges, the dress hugs her curves perfectly.
My heart starts racing as she twirls in front of me, asking how she looks.
I clear my throat, trying to find the right words.
She moves closer, her perfume filling my senses.
Our eyes meet in her full-length mirror, and I notice her cheeks flush pink.
My hands grip the edge of her bed as I watch her twirl in front of the mirror.
The blue fabric swishes around her knees, and I can't help but notice how it hugs her curves.
She keeps glancing at me through the reflection, her cheeks a light shade of pink.
I clear my throat, trying to calm my racing pulse.
The afternoon sunlight streaming through her window catches on her hair, making it shine like gold.
She takes small steps toward me, fidgeting with the thin straps that sit delicately on her shoulders.
The scent of vanilla perfume grows stronger, filling my senses.
I swallow hard, feeling my mouth go dry.
She turns to face me directly now, waiting for my verdict.
"Jade, you look amazing," I finally manage to say, my voice barely above a whisper.
She smiles softly, but there's a hint of something else in her eyes. "Jack, there's something I've been meaning to tell you."
I feel a knot tighten in my stomach as I nod for her to continue.
