"Ah, Professor Snape, I trust you are keeping well?"
Dumbledore looked up at me with a smile.
That same smile that often annoyed me.
The smile that suggested he knew something I didn't, which often times, he did.
But I wasn't going to let him get the better of me this time.
"Professor Dumbledore, I have come to speak to you about Potter, Granger, and Weasley," I said, trying to keep my voice from sounding too bitter.
"They were caught causing chaos in the castle during school hours. They were using magic to make the suits of armor fall over, causing quite a ruckus in the corridors."
"Ah, yes, I see," Dumbledore nodded thoughtfully.
"And what do you propose we do about this, Professor?"
His eyes twinkled with amusement, no doubt at my frustration.
Fuming, I tried to keep my cool at his lack of seriousness towards the matter.
"Expel them!" I exclaimed.
"They are nothing but troublemakers! Granger is a know-it-all and Weasley is a foolish little boy who looks up to Potter as his hero. Potter himself is a reckless impulsive boy who acts without thinking things through!"
Dumbledore sighed and rubbed his temples.
"I fear expelling them would not be the best course of action, Professor," he said gently.
"But surely you must see—"
"No, I fear I do not," he interrupted.
The Trio's Chaos
I paced back and forth before his desk, my black robes swishing against the cold stone floor.
The portraits of former headmasters on the walls watched me with poorly concealed interest.
I had already told him about the previous infractions of the trio.
Three cases of unauthorized magic in the corridors, five instances of being out after curfew, and now this armor incident.
Dumbledore listened patiently, fingers steepled beneath his chin.
The Trio's Chaos
When I finished, I planted both hands on his desk, leaning forward.
The afternoon sun streaming through the window cast my shadow across his collection of silver instruments.
"A week of detention is hardly sufficient," I said through gritted teeth.
"They need to understand the gravity of their actions."
Dumbledore's expression remained serene.
He was ready to argue with me some more.
I could see it in his eyes.
Just as I opened my mouth to continue, the door to his office burst open and Professor McGonagall strode in without knocking.
Her emerald green robes swished against the stone floor, her silver hair pulled back into a tight bun.
She marched right up to his desk, her eyes fixed on him.
Her lips were set in a stern line, her brows furrowed in concern.
I recognized that look.
It was the same one she gave me when I had been injured during the war.
"Professor Dumbledore, I heard you were discussing the latest antics of Potter, Weasley, and Granger," she said briskly.
The Trio's Chaos
"I would like to propose a different course of action."
Before I could object, she outlined her proposal to take the three under her wing for extra lessons in magical control and discipline.
Her words were like a knife to my gut.
Of course she would coddle them instead of punish them properly. My hands clenched behind my back as I watched Dumbledore's eyes light up with approval.
"Ah, Professor McGonagall," he said warmly, "I think that is an excellent idea."
The Trio's Chaos
He beamed at her like a proud father.
I glared at her, my eyes narrowing.
She ignored me, her gaze fixed on Dumbledore as she outlined her plan in detail.
Just as I was about to object, a discordant noise filled the room.
The portraits of former headmasters lining the walls of Dumbledore's office began making a cacophony of sounds.
They were all swaying and stomping their feet in time.
My jaw clenched in irritation as I realized what they were doing.
They were playing music.
A muggle song, to be exact.
The one that Potter had been whistling the other day.
The one with the catchy melody and annoying lyrics.

The Trio's Chaos
Dumbledore's eyes twinkled with amusement while McGonagall pursed her lips in disapproval.
I suspected that Potter and his friends had somehow enchanted the portraits to play this song, but I couldn't prove it. Former headmaster Dippet was particularly enthusiastic, stomping his feet and clapping his hands together in time with the beat.
I stormed towards the door, my black robes billowing behind me like a dark cloud.
I halted at the top of the spiral staircase, my hand gripping the cold stone railing.
The portraits were still singing as I descended into the darkness.
I could hear McGonagall's voice as she outlined her proposal in more detail.
Advanced transfiguration lessons for Granger, strategic wizarding chess with Weasley, and defensive magic practice for Potter.
My initial impulse was to storm away, but something made me pause.
The Trio's Chaos
McGonagall was also proposing to incorporate strict discipline and regular progress reports.
Perhaps this wouldn't be a complete waste of time after all.
I turned back, pushing the door open wider.
Both McGonagall and Dumbledore looked up as I re-entered, their conversation halting momentarily.
I walked back to my previous position, my footsteps echoing in the sudden silence.
McGonagall raised an eyebrow at my unexpected return.
Dumbledore leaned forward in his chair, his eyes twinkling with approval.
The portraits had finally settled down, although Dippet still hummed quietly in his frame.
"Professor McGonagall," I said stiffly, "Perhaps I spoke too soon. I agree that your proposal has merit. However, I suggest adding advanced potions instruction to their specialized training program."
The Trio's Chaos
McGonagall's eyes widened slightly, her lips pursed as she considered my words.
"I propose that I provide the instruction myself," I continued.
"That way, the three will be occupied and under strict supervision during their free time."
McGonagall nodded slowly, her initial surprise giving way to cautious approval.
