On a planet without time, we are not born, we don't age, and we don't die.
We also don't invent time, so we don't have words for it, and we cannot comprehend its meaning.
We are formed randomly.
Sometimes we disintegrate after a while, but usually before that, we just forget who we are and disappear.
I don't know why, but I never forgot who I was.
I am Ella.
One day, I found a portal to Earth.
I followed the light and discovered a huge sphere of blue and white colors hanging in space.
I saw strange objects floating around it and decided to take a closer look.
They were some kind of technology, completely foreign to me.
I had never seen anything like it before.
Suddenly, I felt a pull toward the sphere itself.
I landed on its surface and saw a forest in front of me.
I didn't know what a forest was at that time, but I was curious, so I went to explore it.
After some time, I stumbled upon a figure and watched it from afar.
It was a human, I would later learn.
The figure sat on the ground with its back turned to me.
I approached it slowly and saw that it held a small rectangle in its hands.
The rectangle emitted light, just like the portal I found earlier.
I creep closer to the seated figure, my footsteps silent on the forest floor.
The rectangle's glow intensifies as I near, casting a blue light across the human's hands.
Curiosity overwhelms my caution.
My fingers stretch forward, trembling slightly.
The human remains absorbed in the device, unaware of my presence.
Leaves rustle overhead, and a cool breeze brushes past.
I pause just inches from the glowing screen, studying how the light dances across the human's fingers.
The device displays moving shapes and symbols I don't understand.
My hand hovers there, suspended in the space between us.
Then, with a sudden certainty, I touch the screen and everything changes.
As my finger makes contact with the glowing screen, a tingling sensation spreads through my body.
The device's surface feels warm and smooth, unlike anything on my planet.
Startled by my touch, the human jerks back, nearly dropping the device.
He stares at me, his brown eyes widening with a mix of fear and wonder.
I notice his chest rising and falling rapidly - breathing, I recall from our planet's observations of Earth beings.
Neither of us moves.
The forest around us grows quieter, as if holding its breath.
When he shifts slightly, leaves crunch beneath his feet.
The human's breathing slows, and his posture relaxes a fraction.
His gaze never leaves mine, and I remain frozen in place, my hand hovering near the device.
A rustling sound draws my attention upward.
Branches sway in a gentle breeze - another new sensation for me.
The movement catches the eye of a small creature with delicate wings and a pointed beak.
It hops along the branch, tilting its head to study us.
Without warning, it launches itself downward.
I feel tiny claws grip my shoulder, and the bird's weight settles there.
"Who... who are you?" the human finally asks, his voice a mixture of awe and confusion.
"I'm Ella," I reply, surprised at how easily the words come to me.
The bird chirps softly, as if urging me to continue, and I add, "I come from a place where time doesn't exist."
