I never thought that I would be telling this story.
I always thought that time travel was impossible, a fantasy.
But here I am, telling my story about how I, along with my two friends, traveled back in time to the 19th century, to be exact the year 1885.
All of this happened because of a strange old watch that I found in my attic.
My friends and I were transported from the year 2025 to the year 1885.
We had to get used to horses and carriages on the streets, no cars, no airplanes, no cell phones, no internet.
Everything was new and unusual for us.
Sometimes we fought over stupid things but in the end, we always made up and found a solution to every problem that occurred.
I have to say that it was pretty interesting and exciting.
I am an historian and I loved history almost as much as I loved my life.
So for me, it wasn’t that hard to get used to the life in the 19th century.
Maria loved history almost as much as I did.

In my dimly lit room at the boarding house, I carefully lifted the brass watch from the table, bringing it closer to my face.
The worn metal felt cold against my fingers as I traced the intricate engravings that adorned its surface.
Maya hovered beside me, her scientific curiosity evident in the way she leaned in to examine the timepiece.
"Look at this," she said, her voice filled with awe.
"The craftsmanship is exquisite. It's as if each detail was meticulously etched by hand."
I nodded in agreement, turning the watch over to reveal the delicate mechanisms hidden beneath.
"It's incredible. I've never seen anything like it."
Maria, who had been quietly sketching the watch in her notebook, spoke up.
"I think I've found something interesting," she said, her pencil poised over the page.
"Look at this symbol here, along the edge of the watch. It's unlike any language I've ever seen before."

Maya and I gathered around Maria, peering at her sketch.
The symbol was indeed peculiar, resembling a cross between ancient hieroglyphics and a mathematical equation.
"What do you think it means?"
I asked, my curiosity piqued. Maria shrugged.
"I'm not sure. But I have a feeling that it might be important."
As we continued to study the watch, Maya suddenly gasped.
"Wait a minute," she exclaimed.
"There's something else here. Look at this gear mechanism. It's unlike anything I've ever seen before."
We all leaned in closer to examine the intricate arrangement of gears visible through the crystal face of the watch.
"It looks like it's been modified," Maya said, her brow furrowed in concentration.
"But how? And why?"
I turned the watch over again, searching for any clues that might shed light on its mysterious past.
As I did so, my fingers brushed against a small indentation on the back of the watch.
It was subtle, but unmistakable—a tiny button hidden amongst the engravings.
Without thinking, I pressed it. The room fell silent as we watched in awe as the watch sprang to life in my hand.
The gears whirred smoothly, and the hands began to move—counterclockwise.
My heart raced as I realized what was happening.
The watch was winding itself backwards through time!
Suddenly, a warm glow emanated from within its depths, illuminating our faces with an otherworldly light.
Maya's eyes widened, her voice trembling with excitement.

"This is it! This must be how we traveled back in time!"
Maria glanced at me, her expression a mix of fear and wonder.
"But why would someone create such a device? And what if... what if we're not the first ones to use it?"
I placed the watch back on the wooden table, its metal surface catching the dim gaslight from our boarding house window.
Maya immediately pulled out her notebook and began sketching diagrams of the mechanism, muttering calculations under her breath.
Maria leaned in closer, her artist's eye tracing the intricate engravings that adorned the watch's surface.
I resisted the urge to touch the watch again, remembering how its strange power had brought us here in the first place.
Instead, I pulled out my own notebook and began documenting every detail I could remember about the moment we arrived in 1885—the disorienting sensation, the shift in air quality, and the sudden change in our surroundings.

The watch's hands continued their steady tick, now moving normally in a clockwise motion.
