After class ended, I went to the bathroom and...
"Teachers!"
I heard someone whisper my name.
I turned around and saw Ms. Maira and Ms. Janet coming towards me.
Then I looked to my side and saw Ms. Sue standing next to me.
Oh!
I didn't notice her earlier.
"Hello, Lily. What are you doing here?"
Ms. Sue asked me.
Seeing the teachers, I started sobbing again.
The three teachers saw me crying and... "Come here, sweetheart."
Ms Sue opened her arms for me.
I walked into her embrace and hugged her tightly.
Ms. Maira and Ms. Janet also hugged me from the side.
The four of us stood there embracing each other silently.
After a few minutes, the teachers pulled back and gave me a soft smile.
"Are you feeling better now?"
Ms. Sue asked as she gently wiped away my tears with her hand.
I nodded my head and sniffed.
"Yes, thank you."
"You're welcome, sweetheart."
Ms. Sue caressed my hair.
"We are going to the staff room. Want to come with us?"
I nodded my head again.
"Yes."
So I followed the teachers to the staff room.
We sat on the sofa in the staff room and Ms. Maira fetched some water for me to drink.
I sat on the sofa and Ms. Sue sat next to me.
Ms. Maira handed me a glass of water and I took it from her.
My hands were still shaking as I held the glass.
Fresh tears welled up in my eyes.
Without saying anything, Ms. Sue slid closer to me and put her arm around my shoulders.
Ms. Maira took the glass from my hand and placed it on the coffee table.
She sat on my other side and wrapped her arm around me too.
Ms. Janet kneeled in front of us and hugged me gently with her arms around my waist.
I started sobbing again as I felt their warm hug enveloping me.
The three teachers hugged me tightly as I cried quietly.
I kept my arm around Lily's shoulders as she continued to shake with sobs.
Ms. Maira shifted on the sofa, turning to face Lily more directly.
She opened her arms and Lily leaned into her embrace, keeping one hand clutched in my sleeve.
Ms. Janet moved closer, still kneeling, and wrapped her arms around Lily's waist.
I leaned in too, joining the embrace from the other side.
Lily's tears soaked into my cardigan as she pressed her face against my shoulder.
Her breathing came in shuddering gasps while we held her close.
"Lily, we need to tell you something," Ms. Maira said softly, her voice steady yet gentle.
Ms. Janet looked up at Lily, her eyes filled with concern.
"We know about the letter you found in your locker," she revealed, her words hanging heavily in the air.
Lily's grip on my sleeve tightened as she processed what Ms. Janet had just said.
Her shoulders shook with fresh sobs, her face still pressed against my cardigan.
Ms. Maira rubbed gentle circles on Lily's back while Ms. Janet squeezed her hand reassuringly.
When Lily finally lifted her head, her eyes were red and swollen from crying.
She looked at each of us in turn before suddenly throwing both arms around my neck in a desperate embrace.
I held her securely, feeling her trembling body against mine as she whispered "thank you" through her tears.
The room was silent, but in that quiet, we all understood the strength of being heard and held.
As Lily's crying subsided into hiccups, Ms. Maira shifted closer on the sofa, her hand reaching up to brush a tangled lock of hair away from Lily's tear-stained face.
When Lily finally relaxed her grip on my sleeve, Ms. Maira gently took both of Lily's hands in hers.
"Come here, sweetheart," she said softly, opening her arms.
After a moment's hesitation, Lily leaned forward into Ms. Maira's embrace.
Ms. Maira wrapped her arms protectively around Lily, cradling the back of her head as Lily buried her face in Ms. Maira's shoulder.
