"What’s wrong, Lily?"
Then Ms. Janet arrives.
I hid behind Ms. Daniela.
She knelt in front of me as I hid behind her.
"Are you okay, sweetie?"
She asked me with her arms wide open.
I walked into them.
She hugged me lightly.
"They’re not going to hurt you, I promise. I am right here with you. What do you need, can you tell me?"
I nodded my head.
"I just don’t want Ms. Janet to be mad at me."
She gave me a reassuring smile and a soft pat on the back before he stood up, holding my hands in hers as she faced Ms. Janet, who was walking towards them.
"Ms. Janet, hello. It’s Ms. Daniela Martinez, Lily’s teacher. Are you alright?"
Ms. Janet looked at me first before looking back at Ms. Daniela.
"Hello Ms. Daniela, yes I am alright."
She said back to her.
"Good. Lily here was a little anxious."
Then she looked down at me and smiled.
"Hi Lily."
"Hi Ms Janet."
I said back to her.
"She just needed a little comfort, that’s all."
Ms. Daniela then looked back down at me.
"Are you feeling a little better now, can you go talk to Ms Janet?"
I nodded my head and took the hand Ms Janet was offering me.
I walked beside her as she walked away from me and I looked up at her.
"Are you ready to go now, Lily?"
I nodded my head.
She gave me one last pat on the back before she let go of my hands.
Ms. Janet gave me a stern look before she turned around and walked away.
I looked up at Ms. Daniela, who gave me a reassuring smile.
Then we followed Ms. Janet.
As we walked, I noticed that her expression had softened.
When we got to where Ms. Sue and Ms. Maria were standing by the classroom door, talking to each other, Ms. Janet stopped and turned around to face us.
"Here you go, Lily."
She said as she pointed to Ms. Sue and Ms. Maria.

I looked over at them and saw that they were smiling at me.
Ms. Daniela was still standing behind me, but I felt safe enough with these ladies that I let go of Ms. Janet’s hand and walked towards them.
When I got to them, I put my arms around Ms. Janet’s waist and squeezed her tight.
She patted my back gently in response.
Then I let go of her and walked over to Ms. Sue, who was smiling at me.
I put my arms around her waist and squeezed her tight.
She squeezed me back.
Then I walked over to Ms. Maria, who was smiling at me too.
I put my arms around her waist and squeezed her tight.
The Teacher Who Saved Me
She rubbed my back gently in response.
Then I walked back over to Ms. Janet and gave her a quick hug before I let go of her and followed the other three ladies into the classroom.
Ms. Daniela gave me an approving nod as I passed by her.
Ms. Sue and Ms. Maria were smiling at me as they followed behind me into the classroom.
I stopped in the middle of the room and turned around to face the ladies who had just helped me through my fear.
I started with Ms. Maria, who was standing by the door.
I walked over to her and put my arms around her waist, breathing in her familiar scent as she put her arms around my shoulders and squeezed me tight.
Then I walked over to Ms. Daniela, who was standing by the desk.
I wrapped my arms around her waist and squeezed her extra tight, feeling her warm hands pat my back soothingly.
The Teacher Who Saved Me
Then I walked over to Ms. Janet, who was standing by the door.
I put my arms around her waist and squeezed her tight, surprised by how gentle she felt in my arms.
Then I looked over at Ma, who was standing by the door too.
Then I let go of her and walked over to Ms. Sue, who was standing by the door too.
She was smiling at me quietly as I put my arms around her waist and squeezed her tight.
I felt tears start to well up in my eyes at the thought of how far I had come since this morning, and how all these ladies had helped me through it.
My legs carried me over to Ms. Sue again, and the first tears rolled down my cheeks as she opened her arms for me.
I fell into them, pressing my face against her shoulder.
The Teacher Who Saved Me
My body shook with quiet sobs as she wrapped her arms around me securely.
"Lily," Ms. Sue whispered softly, "there's something we need to tell you."
I pulled back slightly, wiping my tears, and looked up at her, confused.
Ms. Maria knelt down beside me, her eyes gentle, "Your mom called; she's coming to pick you up today."
I nodded, feeling more tears start to well up in my eyes.
I stood up, still sniffling a bit, and Ms. Sue put her hand on my shoulder, guiding me to the center of the small group.
Ms. Maria stood up and moved over to my left, Ms. Janet standing behind me, and Ms. Daniela completing the circle on my right.
Without saying anything, they all stepped forward at once and hugged me.
Ms. Sue's cardigan brushed my cheek as Ms. Maria's hand found my back.
The Teacher Who Saved Me
Ms. Janet wasn't as intimidating when she was hugging me like this, and Ms. Daniela's hug was warm and familiar too.
I closed my eyes and leaned into their hug.
Ms. Daniela's voice was soft in my ear as she said, "You're doing so well, Lily."
