I was a little person, 35-40 years old, single-height, not fat or thin.
I belonged to the lower socio-economic class.
Maybe I was a delivery driver, or a bankrupt small business owner, or an unemployed programmer.
In short, I was an ordinary person who could go anywhere in real life.
I had a wife and a daughter, and we struggled with financial difficulties.
The story began on a rainy evening.
I was driving back from work when a car suddenly collided with me.
I fainted, but my spirit did not leave immediately.
With my spirit, I saw the other party being taken away by the ambulance.
My spirit wandered to where the car was badly damaged, but I could no longer see the other party.
Perhaps the other party had died on the spot and his spirit was swept away by the nether world's messenger of death.
Or maybe his spirit followed the ambulance and returned to the hospital.
In short, I could no longer see that person, whether alive or dead.
As for me, my body was also taken away by the ambulance.
The Strongest Delivery Man
My spirit continued to drift along the street, and the familiar streets of our small apartment complex came into view.
The third floor of the building was dark, but the window of our living room was illuminated.
I saw Sarah pacing in the living room.
She repeatedly looked at her phone, as if she were waiting for a call from me.
Emily sat at the kitchen table with her homework, but it had not been touched for a long time.
She just looked at her mother worriedly.
Sarah picked up the phone and dialed a number again.
Her hands were trembling slightly.
The phone rang for a while, and then my voicemail came on.
I tried to call out to Sarah, but there was no sound from my mouth.
The Strongest Delivery Man
I wanted to pass through the window, but my spirit hit an invisible wall.
I floated outside the window, watching Sarah's hands tremble as she dialed my number again.
The voicemail message echoed faintly from the glass.
Emily pushed her math worksheet aside and hugged her knees to her chest.
I looked at the window, which was partially open.
In autumn, the breeze would sneak in through that gap.
My ethereal form tingled as I directed my consciousness toward the narrow opening.
The curtains fluttered slightly.
Emily looked up and saw the movement of the curtains.
Sarah paused mid-dial, and her eyes were drawn to the window.
I pushed forward, but there seemed to be a strange resistance, like moving through thick syrup.
The Strongest Delivery Man
"Did you feel that, Mom?" Emily whispered, her voice barely audible over the rain tapping on the window.
Sarah nodded slowly, her eyes never leaving the fluttering curtains. "It's like he's trying to tell us something, but I don't know what."
Emily's voice trembled as she spoke again, "Do you think... do you think he's still here with us somehow?"
I could see the tears welling up in her eyes, and I wanted to tell her that I was indeed still here.
But I couldn't make a sound.
Sarah walked over and hugged Emily.
"It's okay, Emily. I'm sure he'll come home soon."
Emily leaned into Sarah's embrace, and they both looked at the window.
The rain continued to fall outside, drumming against the glass.
I concentrated my thoughts, pushing forward again with all my might.
I could feel the resistance from the other side of the window, like an invisible wall was blocking me.
But I had to keep trying.
I had to find a way past this barrier and back to my family.
The Strongest Delivery Man
As I pushed forward, memories began to flood my mind.
Not memories of my life as John Miller, but from another existence entirely.
It was as if I had lived another life before coming to this world.
In that life, I was Li Wei Ming, a delivery driver from Guangzhou. Images flashed through my mind: navigating narrow alleyways on an electric scooter, greeting elderly neighbors in Cantonese, sharing simple meals in a cramped apartment.
These memories felt both foreign and familiar at the same time.
The Strongest Delivery Man
My spirit form wavered like smoke as these dual memories clashed within me.
Sarah looked up sharply from inside the apartment, her eyes narrowing as if she sensed something amiss in the air.
